but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
from 1 Corinthians 11:15 (NIV)
Welcome to the main page for the Growing Long Hair Challenge!
I was really inspired by Bev of “Christian Homekeeping” with her posts about growing her hair long, plus lately I’ve felt convicted to myself, that I would like to have long hair for a change.
For me, it just felt more feminine and with my little one, we are committed to not only teaching her modesty, but that it’s okay to be feminine without having to compromise what our Heavenly Father has blessed us with.
We don’t plan on cutting her hair short (unless we are talking bubble gum tangles or last resort) so,due to that, I felt as her mother, it was only appropriate for me to lead by example and to do the same.
I would like to invite you to take the “Growing Long Hair” challenge yourself, particularly if you find yourself as a Christian woman, challenge to fight society’s stereotypes of what it means to be a woman and as a Christan, to lead by example of being more feminine.
This is more of a personal choice for myself as I’ve had several hairstyles over my life, including super short, but lately, just felt a pull to growing my hair long .
If you, like me, are wanting to grow your hair long for whatever the reasons, please feel free to grab the logo below and leave your link to your site so we can check in with each other how we are doing with the challenge.
Each Friday, I will post a “hair checkup” post and encourage you to participate with reports of how you are doing with the “Growing Long Hair” challenge and share tips on how you are growing out your hair tresses.
In addition, I encourage you to drop by “Christian Homemaking” to read Bev’s wonderful and insightful post:

6 years ago my hair started to fall out because of a medication I was taking for Crohn’s disease (it has been now diagnosed as Behcet’s disease that I have.)….. Anyways So I went to the Day Spa and had my hair cut to above the shoulder below the ears. My hair has almost alays been at least to the mid back for a long time. After I had it cut I cried and cried for days. This happend everytime I cut my hair short. I went to another Day Spa and got a perm still my heart was heavy. My bald spots were covered but I couldn’t understand why I felt so ashamed at what I had done. I started serching the bible and found my answers.
God started to press on my hearat that not only am I never to cut my hair again but also to wear a covering. He was also asking me to dress modestly. He was asking me to put aside my pants, shorts and wear long dresses, skirts and to show little to no skin as possible. I had a hard time with this. I once swore that I would never again wear a dress or skirt! As I became faithful and obiedient to God’s calling I became more and meore humble. My headcovering became a witness tool. My clothes became less and less revealing, my jeans went away ( I do own one pair that I wear on the fishing boat as I am very very ungraceful and unsteady and I have been known to land in some very odd unmodest positions in my dresses and skirts. It is ok to laugh I was!) and now I wear longer dresses (at least to the ankle) Long skirts and Blouses and shirts that arent see through and a second layer on top most of the time. My husband didn’t like the traditional headcoverings I liked, so my covering now is my below the waist lenghth hair, I do wear a headband scarf or bun cover when I wear my hair up sometimes. It has been a struggle but it was rewarding once I submitted to God’s will. It hasn’t been without challenges and persicution.
If you feel God tugging on your heart, or if you feel a weight on your shoulders over something I urge to reserch as to why. Look to the Bible for answers and pray about what you think God is asking of you I did and I am Glad I did. It is rewarding to obidient to God the Father.
Your Sister In Christ
Debbi
Debbi,
God bless you and thank you for sharing that very humbling story of growing your hair out.
It is a very strong encouragement for many, like myself, who are growing our hair long and just thank you again for sharing about trusting and obeying our Heavenly Father’s call.
Thanks! I have said it before, and I say it again: it hurts every time I see a girl or woman with long hair cut it short. Nevertheless, I cannot say I would ever want to see a woman “bound” (in a “legal” sense) to having long hair. What I would love to see is women feeling FREE to have long hair (in other words, having the right length of hair (“long”) for the right reasons (because they love having it long, and know God loves that, too). The Bible does not say, “Women shall have long hair”. It says that a woman’s long hair is given to her as a covering. It is a gift. Therefore, I want to heartily commend what you said, and let you know in no uncertain terms that I think it is great you have decided to have long hair. I just pray that you would know that God would not condemn you even if you cut it short. In short, my exhortation, as I said before, is to keep doing the right thing (which you by all means are) for the right reasons (because it’s a “freedom” thing)> God bless thee, sister.
Good on ya! (This is an Australian expression of commendation). I must say, I definitely appreciate it whenever a girl or woman has long hair (and it hurts every time when they cut it short
). As much as I appreciate long hair on a woman, however, I am a believer in women growing their hair long for the RIGHT reasons (because they’re FREE to, not because they HAVE to). Sounds to me like you’re falling into the latter category, which is all the better! Hooray!
For my part, whereas I had long hair when I was 17, I have been there and done that, and will be keeping my hair short.
