"Operation Worship Bible:Homefront" Review

From the publisher, Tyndale,”

Give the gift that matters most in the place it’s needed most. Last year CBA stores took up the challenge of sending 500,000 Bibles to our men and women in uniform. Now available for the general trade in pink camo, a special edition for the wives, mothers, sisters and friends that are supporting our American military around the world.”.

True to it’s word, Tyndale has come out with an “Operation Worship Bible” geared especially for the supporting wives, mothers, sisters and friends in a soldier’s life.
With an adorable pink camoflauge cover and written in the NLT translation, this is a perfect gift to give to someone whose loved one is giving their time, family and life protecting our country.
On a personal level, we make it a routine to send out several of these, to the men and women who are in active duty right now, with messages letting them know we are thinking of them, how apprecative we are of the service they are doing and that they are in our thoughts and prayers, so it was an honor and a blessing to review this special version for the women in those soldiers lives.
With room to leave a personal message, it is perfect to place in a gift basket, just give as is and as I found out, perfect to carry in a diaper bag or purse.
The devotionals that are placed inside, are inspiring as well as encouraging and in the very end, it also shares how to pass on a free bible to others who can benefit from the comfort of reading our Father’s Word.
So if you know of that special someone who can benefit from this or just want to find a way to let someone you know, whose husband, father, brother or friend is currently in the service, that they are not in this alone, I highly recommend sending them one of these bibles.
The cover is a reminder of the important part that a mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend plays in our soldier’s lives and a source of strength, comfort and encouragement as we all pray for our soldier’s who are serving our country.

"Ryken's Bible Handbook" Book Review

Ryken's Bible Handbook: Graham.Author:Leland Ryken and  Philip Graham Ryken
Published: September 19th 2005 by Tyndale House Publishers
Details: Hardcover, 660 pages
ISBN: 0842384014

My Thoughts:

You will eventually figure out that , I enjoy discovering new ways to read and come to understand the Bible. For me, not just reading the Bible, but learning to unearth the layers upon layers of comfort, encouragement and coming closer to our Heavenly Father, is part of the joy and exercise of spending daily time reading the Bible.

It is like exercising, when you stop reading the Bible, you notice be it gradually or immediately, the effects and when you start reading the Bible, its about learning good habits and overcoming bad habits that may have happen.

One of the most popular reasons for not reading the Bible is the average person expresses a lack of understanding how, and Leland Ryken’s book, “Ryken’s Bible Handbook” is an encouraging and in depth but written at layman’s terms, that provide the needed guide map to reading the Bible.

No handbook is ever meant to be a subsitute, and different styles of handbook, may appeal to different people, but this particularly handbook, has a very comforting, conversational style, filled with helpful side notes and maps at the ends, to help both new and maturing Christians in their walk.

It’s often hard to find cons in Bible handbooks, because like travel guides, different people are looking for different things, but like all guides, “Ryken’s Bible Handbook” provides a very indepth look at each individual book of the Bible.

Another plus about this, is that it is very compact, so it wouldn’t take much space in your backpack or tote bag or even say a medium purse (hey these things are important when you’re on the go).

This is something I strongly recommend for the newbie to the growing Christian to have one hand, both for the compactness of the book to the in depth, but conversational and easy to understand reading.

Book Review

So Long, Insecurity: You've Been a Bad Friend to UsAuthor:         Beth Moore

Published:   February 1st 2010 by Tyndale House Publishers (first published 2010)
Details:          Hardcover, 350 pages

ISBN:              1414334729    (isbn13: 9781414334721)

My Thoughts:

9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,

And called from its farthest regions,

      And said to you,

      ‘ You are My servant,

I have chosen you and have not cast you away:

       10 Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your God.

      I will strengthen you,

      Yes, I will help you,

I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

(Isaiah 41:9-10, New King James Version)

This is a book I was really looking forward to read and not just because it’s a “Beth Moore” book, but because like many people and women especially, I struggle with issues of insecurity and shyness due to many things that through and in our Heavenly Father, I have been working through, so reading this book, was a very personal experience and what felt like another step toward building that trust, faith and hope in our Heavenly Father.

Covering range of experiences that all of us who deal with insecurity go through, Beth Moore’s book,“So Long Insecurity” manages to balance between being a light hearted read to a strong challenge to not let the chains of insecurity from becoming the person that our Heavenly Father calls us to be.

Beth Moore doesn’t shy from the factors that can contribute to our insecurity and a great example is when she tackles the issue of how as women, as sisters, we tend to contribute to each other insecurities than to help alleviate it.

On page, 275, she writes a powerful observation,

“Most obvious is when women are around other women; they try to size each other up and look for reasons to not get along rather than to get along. They seem easily intimidated, whether by physical beauty, character status, or whatever makes them feel that the other woman has more going for her, and a barrier goes up”.

Sound familiar?

She quotes from Galatians 5:21,”……the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival”, and gives us rivitating examples of how insecurity isn’t a character flaw, but often a life flaw created by the web and flow of life experiences around us.

This is more than just a feel good book; She doesn’t provide quick fix answers, but Beth Moore’s,“So Long Insecurity”, does provide, digging deeper beyond the surface look at how our insecurities, our contributions to either our own or other’s insecurities, are non-meaningful road blocks that keep each of us, from being encouraging and encouraged, and being able to mature as our Heavenly Father calls us to.

If you struggle with issues of insecurity, shyness or maybe, have felt convicted about insecurity, “So Long Insecurity” is a well-written, thought provoking look at the crippling effects of insecurity and how to take the steps to get beyond this self-sabotaging, character sabotaging, life sabotaging feeling.

Publishers Description:
Perhaps one of the biggest issues all women face is their own insecurity. Beth Moore, one of today’s most admired and trusted Christian writers, wants women to be free from the insecurity trap. So Long, Insecurity will strike a chord with women everywhere, as Beth speaks truth into the lives of readers, showing them how to deal with their innermost fears, rediscover their God-given dignity, and develop a whole new perspective—a stronger sense of self. Women of all ages and backgrounds will resonate with this message of security and discover truths that will free them emotionally and spiritually and lead them to a better life as they walk with God.

When I received this book, my kids immediately wanted me to start reading it to them and even I enjoy the cover title; Opening to the current date and reading that day’s devotional, I was quickly impressed with the quality of the illustrations that really captured the devotionals being shared and the short but very meaningful devotionals that help guide a child in learning about Our Heavenly Father’s desire for us all.

Using the “Little Blessings” illustrations, different versions of scripture and short devotionals that an early reader to first grader can easily read and use for daily devotions, “The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2″ promises to be a delightful way to start the mornings (or end the evenings) with that day’s devotions and teach early beginners of His Word.

In case you were wondering, the translations that are used in “One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2” are the NIV, TLB, NLT,ICB,TSLB,NKJV, and the NRSV and the verses used makes a great resource for scripture memorization.

The illustrations easily captures the children attention and the book is well-designed for little hands to hold on their own and explore.

This makes for a delightful gift for Christmas or Easter if you are looking for a heart-warming, simple start to teaching your children to enjoy daily devotions and is sure to capture the youngest heart and help children develop a love to spending time learning about Scripture.
