Romans 8:25-A Word Filled Wednesday

Romans 8:25; Image by HeartLight Gallery

Life seems a lot about waiting and when its for a phone call, waiting seems to go from a few hours to almost eternity.

This image that captures, Romans 8:25, is something that I think so many of us can relate in all circumstances of our lives.

Maybe its that phone call saying we got the job.

Maybe its the phone call waiting for lab results.

Maybe the results of an important test or for many that letter saying you got into the college of your choice.

Waiting is so much a part of life, but the hardest thing to do at the same time.

The “Dictionary of Bible Themes”, goes on about this that,”Being prepared to patiently look towards God for his guidance and accepting the timing he proposes. Waiting on God can lead to an atmosphere of expectation and confidence in God and a realisation of the unreliability of one’s own judgment.

Try telling a young child to be patient for their birthday or to open their Christmas presents, not going to happen, but for adults, that wait often isn’t as filled with fun as it is with anticipation of,”what if”,”what about” “what could be” and its both a struggle and a blessing to be holding on to that hope, in and through Jesus Christ, that our Father, Lord in Heaven, will see us through whatever it is that has us holding our breathes in……wait.

God doesn’t work on our time frame and that is okay at the same time; We live too much in a world of have to have it now, fast food drive throughs, make it quick, “I don’t have two minutes to spare”, rush rush rush, but in the end, God is in control….much better control, than we often are, where in our impatience, we rush into judgements, decisions and emotions.

So like many, we wait….we hope…and we just…have…faith.

Trimming the ends

“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that is will be even more fruitful.”  -John 15:2 (NIV)

Gardening is really not my strongest point.

I have cactus that passed away, on my watch,to where-ever plants ,under my care ,pass away and I wonder, when I go to Heaven one day, if gardening might be one of those things that our Heavenly Father may decide is my weakest point and direct everyone there to keep me away from?

Have you ever felt like anything you’ve touched seem to falter under your watch?

Friendships, projects, plants?

Have you thought that maybe it’s not so much as they are faltering under your care, but that our Heavenly Father, in His infinite wisdom, saw something that you have yet to know or has yet come to pass, and is constantly pushing you on to something bigger and better that He needs you at, or maybe just sees something that maybe hindering your growth in and through Christ?

Okay…that doesn’t explain the plants part.

Maybe it’s just saving grace that He wants to protect the plants so there’s not really a good go around on that one.

That’s okay though. You may not be the greatest gardener out in the green garden, but rather you know it or not, you are the greatest gardener in God’s world and He needs you to serve Him as He plants seeds here and there.

However, being the Master Gardener that He is, He can quickly spot the areas in our lives that.just.not.are.right.for.us and as hard as it is for us to lose friendships that seem to no longer bear fruit for us, to no longer feel like you are growing in that church that was really great a year ago, or He doesn’t need you working at that job anymore and it’s just reached that point that it doesn’t bear fruit for you that in turn bear testimony to Him.

There are some things he can’t leave to us. He’s the professional. We’re not. Which is why:WE need HIM.

Okay.

Easier said then done.

I have had quite a few dead or dying branches in my life and there were quite a few that I didn’t want to let go or still don’t want to let go of, but God had other plans for me.

Good thing He doesn’t ask for my opinion of what I usually think on some things because I already know I’m imperfect to begin with and that’s why I have needed Him before, need Him now and always will need Him no matter where or what I am.

If He depended on what I had to thought, my whole branches would be dead or dying; However God is bigger and better than that and He knows I’m human, I make mistakes, I excel at making mistakes that I sometimes wonder if that was what I’m here for, to just make mistakes all the time.

Alright; That’s not the case, or at least I hope so, but I know that there are a lot of times when I feel down and about that I have to remember….I may make mistakes, infrequently or if you ask some people, frequently, but we serve a perfect Father.

There are no mistakes in His design and there never will be a mistake in His design. It’s easy to try and tell ourselves that but we then have to remember, who made the first choice to make the mistake, Him or us?

We usually do and God, God is so perfect in that He swoops right in (though maybe not that dramatically) and turns what may seem like a bad situation and uses it for HIS good.

How many times when we have that “uh-oh” moment and find ourselves later turning to Him, or because of Him, using that moment to share as testimony to someone else, who in turn, turns to Him.

Is that a mistake?

Nope.

That’s called God’s perfection.

So what about all those dead branches again?

Who among us has a tree that is flourishing, green and just plush with leaves but there are dead branches hanging about obscurring the view of the tree or maybe present a hazard to ourselves or to others, if not now, then definetely later?

Some of us do it ourselves but to really get the job done right and safely, we leave it to the professionals. Same with God. We can’t do this ourselves, we need Him though sometimes we may be to shy or prideful to say so, ultimately, He is the ONLY one who can save us.

Not us.

No one outside of us.

No one in the world.

Only Him.

During the hurricane, one thing that was commonplace around here, was people not only preparing their homes but pruning their trees of potential hazards or if they had time, cutting down old trees that they knew could fall and either damage their property or potentially hurt someone.

That’s what God does with our lives….

If there is something there that is going to keep us from growing, keep us from seeing Him, will be a hazard to us or to others or can be use, like dead branches are use to build a fire, to lead someone to Christ, HE, is going to personal go, “looking a shabby there “fill in your name” today, let me give you a “trim”.

And trimming He does, till there is nothing that will hinder our growth in and through Christ.

Good thing God doesn’t leave that up to me. That’s like me skipping the hairdresser and trying to cut my own hair. I can’t cut straight so imagine if I try to cut my own hair. Uhm…yep.

If you haven’t had a chance to really know Him or would like to have a personal relationship with Him, I invite you to look Him up. He is in the best book in the world. that is more informative than the local yellow pages. Take a look and find out for yourself.

Want to know about the best thing about this professional?

He is on call 24/7 and the price has already been paid. All you have to do is accept, believe and confess.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

John 3:16-18, 36 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son…. [36] Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

Acts 16:30-31, KJV …Sirs, what must I do to be saved? [31] And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

The trip to New York was an amazing experience, though we were thrilled to be back home and back with the kids.

We had the opportunity to visit parts of Central Park and our guide that my husband’s company had hired, showed us some gardens that was in the area and this was a path that was off to the side of one of the gardens.

As we walked down the path, it really hit me not only the importance of reading God’s word but why He calls upon us to hide His word in our hearts for this was one of few moments, when I was glad I had laid a simple verse to heart: “Your Word is like a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.”

Yes Lord, Your word is a light and a path for me, for you, for all of us.

It really caught me off guard how quiet and serene the gardens were and for that moment, we forgot that we were in this huge, overwhelming (and loud) city, but as we just walk along those paths for that short moment, it was a reminder how God’s word takes us away and provides us with hope, with peace and with shelter from a consuming world.

Lord, I thank You for Your words that I try so hard to hide within my heart so when I need to cry out to You, You can give me shelter from a world that moves so fast.

Word-Filled Wednesdays

Don\'t WorryIt’s easier said than done with the rise in both gas prices, groceries and just about everything else to not panic….yet, but we have found as we’ve had to cut back on a lot of the errands and even just “luxuries” that we were use to like, eating out once a week and just where we traveled too, of what was really important and what were just wants that fill up empty time slots and empty souls.

One of the blessings and yes there are blessings in the midst of all this, is that Our Heavenly Father had us really looking at ways that we can invest spending time at home and as a family.

T.V. time was really cut back (which actually and secretly made me happy since I’m more into reading books than watching t.v. but don’t tell that to my husband) and we had invested in a Wii sometime back.

Via Wii internet connection, we could still play with my mother in law (and I didn’t have to hear her try to talk smack to me to try and psych me out and get me to lose, p.s. I love you mom, but I still bowl better than you nyah nyah), but more than anything, we actually have gone out and bought board games that require us to actually sit down and *gasp* interact as a family.

We trust in our Heavenly Father, even in the midst of tightening our belts and watching each cent and seeing how gas prices is rising higher, because He is and I deeply believe, will provide us with our needs. The importance is remembering what is a need and what is just a want…I don’t believe we will go hungry, He will find a way to help us keep a roof over our heads and like He provides for the flowers and the birds, will bless us in ways that we may not have many material things, He will see that we are provided spiritually.

Tomorrow has enough worries on it’s own, not knowing what is going to come about with rising gas prices, but today, tomorrow and always, we have our Heavenly Father.

So though we may trade an arm and a leg to make that short drive to the grocery store, I trust in our Heavenly Father to help us see through this as He sees us through every trial in our lives.

It may not be as comfortable as we want, but I think about how He didn’t let the Israelites go hungry while they were out in the desert. It was a fitting reminder that our manna may come in the form of just bare staples to make it through each week, or a blessing of a sale that will help us see through another week, or blessing the garden we are going to grow in our backyard, but as we struggle to deal with the rising costs of gas and groceries, no matter what, don’t worry. Really. Don’t worry. God will provide. It may not be as we plan it out, but He will find a way.

So I may have to check out two weeks worth of library books (you don’t want to know), but despite the cost of gas, we have homeschooling to occupy our days, a garden that eventually will call for our attention, each week, we have church to bring us to praise and worship our Heavenly Father, and each night, we have the company of each other. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending how you see it and if you are open to bowling competitions and talking smack (in a good way) with your mother in law even if it is over the phone. At least she can’t see you sticking your tongue out at her when you bowl that perfect strike…oh yeah!

10 Minute Tuesdays-Where is Your Hope

Now, please set your timer for 10 minutes and soak in His word. Come join 10 Minute Tuesdays!

Look here for the 10 Minute Tuesday guidelines at Faithful Chicks.

It is so great to have “10 Minute Tuesday’s” back. This is a really fun and engaging meme that has one really taking time to read God’s Word and what the Holy Spirit is reaching out to us that day to remember for the rest of the week.

God’s Word For You Today:
Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. -Psalm 37:34 (NLT)

As I read this, it really hit home to me because how often do we find ourselves traveling and feeling “fine” but because we are basing it on feelings, when things get rocky, we panic?

I’m guilty for one and not immune or perfect when I find my hope being questioned.  We know the feelings: the anxiety, the questions, the what-if’s, but what good does it do but just steal our focus from our Heavenly Father and fill ourselves with needless worry that often doesn’t come to past.

Our hope can be based on the tried and true words of our Heavenly Father that has been proven to be faithful or it can be based on an ever changing world that can’t seem to make up it’s mind what it wants. It’s like standing at the edge of an ocean and basing our hopes on the various high and low tides of the waves…there is no stability there.

If we have a choice of where to go to look for hope and assurances, there are two…we can base it on the ever changing tide of the world, or we can base it on the rock solid foundation of our Heavenly Father and part of that includes understanding, like I”m having to learn that, friends and family will come and go, but our Heavenly Father….He will never leave….He is always there.
