Growing Long Hair Challenge

I received the following comment recently and it was a very powerful testimony that, with permission of the commentor, I would like to share with you, Gentle Readers.

It was a powerful testimony, for it reflects, just the humbling encouragement of our Heavenly Father and it goes beyond just growing one’s hair long, but  how, when we take that challenge to follow our Heavenly Father, trust Him, and listen to His gentle urging of what He calls and desires for us, what His blessings are in our lives.

Nothing has been changed; This comment is as how it appeared on November 11, 2009.

6 years ago my hair started to fall out because of a medication I was taking for Crohn’s disease (it has been now diagnosed as Behcet’s disease that I have.)….. Anyways So I went to the Day Spa and had my hair cut to above the shoulder below the ears. My hair has almost alays been at least to the mid back for a long time. After I had it cut I cried and cried for days. This happend everytime I cut my hair short. I went to another Day Spa and got a perm still my heart was heavy. My bald spots were covered but I couldn’t understand why I felt so ashamed at what I had done. I started serching the bible and found my answers.

God started to press on my hearat that not only am I never to cut my hair again but also to wear a covering. He was also asking me to dress modestly. He was asking me to put aside my pants, shorts and wear long dresses, skirts and to show little to no skin as possible. I had a hard time with this. I once swore that I would never again wear a dress or skirt! As I became faithful and obiedient to God’s calling I became more and meore humble. My headcovering became a witness tool. My clothes became less and less revealing, my jeans went away ( I do own one pair that I wear on the fishing boat as I am very very ungraceful and unsteady and I have been known to land in some very odd unmodest positions in my dresses and skirts. It is ok to laugh I was!) and now I wear longer dresses (at least to the ankle) Long skirts and Blouses and shirts that arent see through and a second layer on top most of the time. My husband didn’t like the traditional headcoverings I liked, so my covering now is my below the waist lenghth hair, I do wear a headband scarf or bun cover when I wear my hair up sometimes. It has been a struggle but it was rewarding once I submitted to God’s will. It hasn’t been without challenges and persicution.

If you feel God tugging on your heart, or if you feel a weight on your shoulders over something I urge to reserch as to why. Look to the Bible for answers and pray about what you think God is asking of you I did and I am Glad I did. It is rewarding to obidient to God the Father.

Growing Long Hair Challenge Update

I need to post the latest photos of my hair length, but I can’t begin to start how humbling it is to have my hair growing long as it is…I say that because it just have become a visual reminder of the feminity that our Father blessed us with.

I need to see about getting the coconut oil as advised by Christian Homekeeping , but lately been distracted due to just taking a sabbatical and re-inventory in how things are done here at home and in my personal relationship with our Father (namely being more effective and focus in prayer and studying His Word).

Funny thing, the neighbors have  commented about my hair length in a “oh….you’re hair is long…” while all sporting bobs and such and then commenting about my homeschooling, which has me left in a sense of, “are they complimenting me or making an indirect comment without trying to sound rude”.

Honestly.

This is a decision our Father convicted my heart of.

Something that I stand by, for Him, on.

So we go to church, my hair is long, I’m starting to wear skirts a little bit more and I stay at home.

It’s actually a comfort following what our Father calls our hearts to lead.

It’s nice to actually…well..feel free to feel more and more like a woman and a daughter of our Father.

Growing Long Hair Challenge Update

My apologies for the late post but we’ve been behind here at home catching up on errands and homeschool and the garden has kept us busy as well.

One of the things I read, was that having a healthy balance of protein helps promote better growth of hair and I try to eat tuna fish lunches at least twice a week, on top of the regular course of meals.

Recently I came across this recipe for Tofu Smoothies and they look like a yummy addition for breakfasts, that I’m thinking of starting.

One such recipe that I came across was the following:

Soy Tofu Smoothie Recipe

1 cup soft Tofu
1/2 a banana
1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup soy yogurt
1/2 cup strawberries

Directions:

Blend the tofu, soy milk, yogurt, half the strawberries, and banana until lightly smooth. Add the remaining strawberries and blend till very smooth. The flavor should be much like a strawberry smoothie as the flavor of both the soy yogurt and tofu will not overwhelm the strawberry flavor.

Growing Long Hair Challenge Update

I can actually braid my hair now without funny stumps at the end. I need to actually measure my hair length tomorrow, but I was really surprised when I can actually tie it up into a french braid.

Still have bangs and that has been a hard struggle; Some days I want to grow them out and other days I want to keep them.

If I do try to grow them out…I end up cutting them short again for sure, so maybe, maybe, during winter, when it’s cooler, I’ll just grow them out, use barrettes….though I do have a high forehead at the same time…

Sigh, I just don’t know…

Funny thing is that I just brush them to the side or part it (the bangs) anyway, so I can figure out..why do I have them anyway?

They don’t lay straight.

Growing Long Hair Challenge -I have pictures!

Yes! I got pictures.

Here are the results of how my hair is doing…as you can tell, still a long way to go but it’s growing.

I’ve found the coconut oil treatment works so much better (and smells better) and currently using Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths.

It’s with prayer and hopes I can get some more length by the end of summer.

How does it feel to have long hair?

Definetely more feminine and my little one keeps talking about how she hopes she can have long hair too. It’s definitely humbled me in so many ways to as to the blessing of letting my hair grow out, in prayer, that it will be a blessing for our Heavenly Father.

Summer is going to be the challenge as the temperature gets warmer and I will have to learn how to be more creative than just a ponytail to adjust working in the garden with long hair, but it’s always worth it though.

God bless my husband, I can tell it has been a joy and blessing for him and he has asked if I would start wearing skirts and dressings more; For me, that means all the world and to our Heavenly Father to see how much it means to him and I told him, gladly; So when we are able to spare some in our budget (times been tough lately, but worth it), investing in some skirts and dresses that I can wear that are not just for Sundays.

I’m thinking of finding some denim skirts that would be weather appropriate for the summer and some summer dresses that are modest but will fit the weather so just keeping in prayers that we will be able to do that, but that is a whole different post—we’re talking hair in this one…lol.

1 Corinthians 11:15

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
