I’m trimming the plants in the garden and the ones hanging off the hanging basket and it had me thinking of things we hang on to that isn’t good for us….of not being able to let go at times when we need to let go so we can move forward instead of staying backwards and of the things that are inhibiting us from growing stronger and fuller instead of stifled where we are…..
Ephesians 4:20-24 ESV
But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
There are times like plants, when we need to be trimmed and the weeds that are taking away our nutrients so we can have a fuller life needs to go and like a good hair trim so our hair can be fuller and healthier, we need to ask ourselves what bad and unnecessary are we holding on and what good do we need to be able to let grow out like it was intended….I think of these things as I slowly worked from plant to plant to make sure each is healthy and have nothing rotting on them or dead or dying and need to be trimmed to make room for new plants, roots and growth
Colossians 2:6-7 ESV
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
It’s Friday….the weekend is here and what work that has been needed in the garden is done, but I already know that each day I make my walk through the garden, there will still be a little upkeep here and there…checking to see which vegetables have ripen and ready to be pick….check the flowers to make sure they are healthy and smell the ones that are in full bloom….
So the same walk we take in our lives….a little trimming here…a little upkeep there..to make sure as we walk our walk as Christians as individuals,we are healthy and strong and where we need to attend to, to make sure we are spiritual strong, we have fellowship….we dig in God’s word…we pray and reach out to God in prayer.
Meanwhile….I finish my work in the garden….check the plants again in the hanging basket to make sure the soil it moist….the plants are still healthy…they have enough water…and then breathe in the fresh air….wipe the dirt from my garden gloves as I listen and watch the birds fly overhead in the early morning, blue sky….free of clouds and yet a light wind rustling through the trees…
Another beautiful day in the garden…..
Isaiah 58:11 ESV
11 And the Lord will guide you continually
and satisfy your desire in scorched places
and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters do not fail.
