Broke the oven

It was actually funny that Laurie of “Magnolia Heartbeat” mention the chocolate cake because I was fixing to post about that.

See.

Uhm.

Uh.

I broke the oven last night while making cookies.

Yes, I know, how did I do that?

Even my FIL is stumped and was stumped when I called him; There’s suggestion that I may have to be either start using a grill for everything (well then there is concern about needing the fire department) or I’m supervised while using the oven.

No clue what happen.

Everything was fine.

They were just chocolate chip and macedemia cookies.

I went to check on them and saw this yellow and orange spark going down the coil.

First thought, TURN OFF THE OVEN.

As I did, the spark faded out and the coil it traveled half collapsed.

So there’s half a coil now.

Nice.

Money is tight as is and this happens.

Praise God that the stove is still working (Hubby kidded over the phone that everytime he leaves time, I break something), but there went my hopes for the chocolate cake.

Hmmm…guess don’t have to worry about the sharing part.

However, cooking will be creative till we can get the part that we need.

Ever feel like that in your everyday life?

Swimming enough to keep your head out of the water, or you think, disaster averted and you can skirt by enough till you can get things together, then something like a burnt coil gets thrown in your life.

Luke 6:46

“But why do you call Me `Master, Master,’ and do not do the things which I say? “Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:  “He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.  “But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

It’s easy to just throw your hands up in the air, or accept the defeat and say, “I can’t do this”,”Why am I doing this” and just walk away, but our Heavenly Father loves us so much that He could have given up on us but didn’t.

He doesn’t want us to do the same and think it’s over; It’s never.

We have to learn to not think one way and one way only or we are destined to fail before we even trying.

We can’t hold our bibles and say we believe, but never open it up and when trials and tribulations come our way, like the man who heard and did nothing, we would be swept away easily, but when we listen to God’s word an apply it like the man who, though it took work and no doubt, time and sweat and tears, his faith was set so deep in the foundation, it could not be swept away and he was prepared.

There is little doubt that yes, he was on a temporary island, but because he KNEW what God wanted, he was ready for anything.

So what does this have to do with a broke oven?

Improvise.

There’s a lot of meals that will be cooked on the stove top till next paycheck, but no sweat.

Like I take the time to really read God’s word and apply it and not just say it, I know in advance that there are still good and healthy meals that can be made without the oven.

(1 Timothy 4:15-16 NIV) Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. [16] Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

(2 Timothy 4:3-4 NIV) For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Hey, at one time, we didn’t even have electric or gas ovens and the women before us had to cook over a fire.

So no matter what we are still blessed and yes, I’m not getting my chocolate cake as I had hoped for, but from whatever it was that I did…I did learn a valuable lesson.

There may come a day my faith will be tested and the word of God will not be available at my hand and then won’t be the time to start reading up on God’s word to know what His word has to say or to “work on my Christian life”.

Hosea 4:6a (NIV) my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

Now is the time.

There is no excuse to not only read God’s word but to apply it, honestly and actively in my life and not just sit by the sidelines thinking, not today or what will other people think.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NLT)

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.  Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

1 Thessalonians 2:3-5 (NIV)

For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.

What will our Heavenly Father think if we are caught unaware and the wall of water comes our way. Will we be prepared?

1 Timothy 4:15-16( NIV)

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Finding comfort under God's umbrella

Recently we received some concerning news that a family member was showing signs of Parkinson disease so they were going in for testing.

This came under heels of praise that another family members cancer was successfully (Praise God) being treated and looking, for the time being, won over and my own news that my health was in the clear after some personal concerns.

Through it all…rather than treating this with a “oh no, not again,” the family instead reacted with, “we are safe in God’s hands and no matter what He brings us, we will see it through for He has already conquer”.

For unbelievers, this maybe seized on as sign of God’s failure or “what did you do” or “you deserve this” or maybe a sign of weakness, but for the believer in the healing powers of Jesus Christ, but all the more, the loving Grace of our Heavenly Father, this is a sign of true belief that no matter what comes along…its not of God, but rather of an imperfect and broken world that HE has conquered and sees to deliver us through.

Rather than groan and wish for deliverance, instead, we give praise that no matter what, He is there and will see us through and in the end, one day, we will be free of the broken world and resting in the loving and perfect world, known as our Heavenly Father’s home, that waits for us one day.

We live in a stormy world where we don’t know what tomorrow may bring, or we may be abandoned or feel abandoned , or maybe, we may feel alone, but through it all, no matter what, this is all temporary , compared to the permanent world of Our Heavenly Father and the world, He prepares for us.

Not much was said on the heels of this latest discussion, other than wait and see what test results brings and we will go from there. I know no matter what…God has already promised us that…..“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[ have been called according to his purpose.-Romans 8:28″

Keep strong Gentle Readers and keep the faith in our Heavenly Father. You may feel the world is bowling you over with one thing after the other, but through your faith in Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father above, is and will see you through, no matter what happens.

All that happens..are but small grains of salt that will one day, mean nothing. Don’t let worry become a new disease to threaten the joy, hope and faith that our Heavenly Father has to offer.

This sounds silly, but to quote off  from the beginning of “Star Wars-The Clone Wars”,”Fear is a disease and hope is the only cure.

As a Christian…we could add…Hope through and in Jesus Christ is the only cure.

Exploring Homeschooling-Reflection of the past month

I never expected homeschooling to change my life as much it has, but it’s something that I am glad that my family and I have made the decision to do.

The first month had its challenge  and it’s been a challenge in many ways, but even though we are toward the end of October, it’s not to say that we haven’t worked out the kinks in the schedule or find completely our groove, but we are getting there.

It did have it’s con’s in that particularly the first month and no doubt as many of you can tell, it took really making priority over what was more important and what wasn’t.

Although I couldn’t spend as much time blogging as I normally have, it’s been worth it, the time I have spent, using nights to research lesson ideas, methods, curriculum and just preparing for the week’s studies ahead.

In the process, it’s been a blessing to personally experience the awareness of a new ability and to know that as a parent, we are able to fully participate in the development of a child’s learning, knowledge and curiousity.

For me, the benefits hasn’t been the time we have spent during school time, but the times I see, “after school” when the kids are playing together or with other kids and the inter-change of ideas and knowledge. In a lot of ways, the kids are teaching other kids, things that they either haven’t learned yet in school or at least this year, or might not be taught in school.

“The experience of homeschooling is as much about adults uncovering the shimmering, infinite quality of learning itself as it is about kids absorbing knowledge.” -Eileen Fisher, Editor, EdPress Online

My husband had a chance to stay home and really see first hand, what a “normal” day was like and afterward, express surprise at how excited the kids were learning and laugh at how disappointment they were, that they couldn’t just keep running with a particular lesson or thought…

He enjoyed participating in our science experiment regarding the “Water Cycle” where the kids both learn about liquid, solid, gas and replicate the transition of solid to liquid when we discover the fastest methods to make water melt (I think the dogs enjoy this the most when they grab a quick, cold drink from one of our experiments.

Later, my husband volunteered to do Friday’s Math facts lesson and enjoyed having both of the kids involved and using shapes to learn how to skip count by 2. I had a hard time not laughing when the oldest correct, Daddy, for miscounting.

It’s been a big help joining not only local homeschooling groups and seeking out the mentorship and just peer support of other homeschooling moms, but I’ve learned a lot connecting with other moms through “The Homeschooling Lounge“, as well just really taking the time to ask questions and challenging myself to not only have fun but re-look at how we were approaching homeschooling.

In addition, we have several resources that we’ve used not as a definitive guide but just as a supplemental guide. Some of those resources have been:

  • Starfall- A great online phonics program to help teach kids phonics and their alphabet. I had been referred to this site earlier on in my research into homeschooling by Sister Christine of “Atomik Kitten”. She recommended this site as a great way to help lay the foundation to help kids reading.

In addition, several books we have in our library that has helped us with developing curriculums and helping us determine what direction to go has been:

Home Learning : Year by Year by Rebecca Rupp

I really enjoy this book because it presents a structured plan for those who are use or looking for more structured in their homeschooling and a great source for texts to use, workbooks, websites and more. Written by Rebecca Rupp, it provides a guidelines of standards of what is usually expected for each grade level and covers from Kindergarten to 12th grade.

What Your Kindergarten Needs to Know by Ed Hirsch

This is actually a pretty neat book. It covers: math, art, history, language arts, science, and technology, about 80 pages and even I enjoy reading it. There is a great section with nothing but just rhymes in there that is just fun, sitting and reading with the kids, and at night, we often get the book just to read the many classic stories that are in it for bedtime stories or to laugh as we read the fun rhymes. The pages covering the arts are gorgeous and a great way to introduce the kindergarten child to beautiful colors and the start of learning about the beauty of the fine artists that are out there.

McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer

A great back to the very basics primer, I was satisfied with how it really works not only on Dolch Words but just basic, good old fashion primer. Looking for something very simple but easy to get kids started reading, I highly suggest using this.

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons by Siegfried Engelmann

We start each day, working for 20 minutes on each lesson, in addition to following up with working on phonics afterward either on Starfall.com or using Paper Magic Phonics Flashcards.

With the “Teach Your Child to Read” there are also  handwriting/manuscript lessons that are associated with this. As for the use of the Phonics Flashcards, the benefits of this as well as using it, in conjunction with Starfall.com is that both the kids are getting the benefits and I’m basically teaching both at the same time. It’s fun and heartwarming to see both of them working together and the youngest benefit from listening and participating with the older kids in the learning process.

For Math, we use many workbooks that are made by Schoolzone and can easily be bought from stores such as Wal-mart, Target, Costco etc.

Offering the same benefits as curriculum based, parents can use this as a cost effective way to supplement kids learning.

Colorful and fun, the kids have really enjoyed using the workbooks, in addition to other worksheets and supplements that we have printed out from the many free worksheet sites available online to learn their basic math and counting skills.

We are also in the process of ordering Abeka Primary Bible to begin bible lessons and I’m also looking into creating lapbooks to not only add to the learning, but give the kids more creative outlets to supplement their learning experience.

I was amazed and just enjoying just the diversity that is available in homeschooling and the realization and freedom in that there is no one set way when it comes to homeschooling.

For science and social studies, there are many sites out there such as lessonplans.com, unit studies online and through homeschooling groups, if you’re more comfortable with a more structured environement, textbooks and prepackaged curriculums; the possibilities are endless.

For me, it’s been a joy to still be able to incorporate our Heavenly Father in our daily learnings and be able to let the kids still have their innocence and joy that in these days, seem to last so short and too quickly for many.

I guess you can say in a way, we have a more structured educational curriculum but as we become more comfortable and confident in homeschooling, I’ve been looking and considering other methods that are out there…With that in mind, I’ve also made sure to pay close attention to the learning styles of the kids and making sure that whatever is use, would be good for them and not just for me, so that in the end, THEY, would not only get the most benefit but the most enrichment and encouragement from being homeschooled.

If you are a homeschooling mom, I would love to hear more from you, what type of homeschooling method are you using and what is your favorite part of homeschooling?

Few strands of grey hair, empty box of chocolate and lots of prayers (Originally intended to be published on Friday)

*Due to sketchy internet service and mind just on praying for the safety of all those in Ike’s path including that of my husband, this post was not able to be published on September 12,2008 as intended.

Being this is now September 13 and pictures and news are coming in from the areas hit, I just pray to our Heavenly Father for His strength and much needed encouragement.

Right now internet is sketchy at best and we are currently waiting for word to come home. Praise God that all those in the family are safe and accounted for and just looking forward to coming home and seeing my husband who weathered the hurricane with our two dogs (that must have taken a LOT of patience).

Currently word is that it maybe anything from a  week to as early as October before power can be resumed.

Please forgive me if postings are infrequent since at this moment I don’t know when anything will be (if ever or can be) back to normal and please please pray for all those in Texas and even Lousiana who was affected by Ike.

God bless the men and women who are out there right now saving people who were in the path of the storm and who are compassionate and caring to be out there to bring light in the darkest moment.

I will try to post again before we are officially back home but if not…please keep in your prayers tonight that through this storm and in its aftermath, that through the strength and love of Jesus Christ, that God’s strength can come through all this and be a shining testament to His love and hope.

Day one after leaving due to the mandatory evactuation that was enacted due to Hurricane Ike. Several strands of grey hair, an empty box of chocolate and prayers all the way, myself, my inlaws, and everyone else who fled ahead of Hurricane Ike has been keeping our eyes on the storm.

My mother in law had called ahead and wanted me and the kids to join her, not only because she would be more relieved knowing we were safe, but also to help be there for moral support and right now, it was a blessing from our Heavenly Father that she did.

Our original point of evacuation turns out to be in the path of the hurricane after landfall so we wouldn’t have been any safer, and yes, I praise our Heavenly Father that through my MIL, He led us to safer grounds.

My husband, however, stayed behind due to needing to put up shutters and he is one of many first responders that would be needed after the storm so hence, a good swath of grey hair from worry now. It’s still nine hours before the hurricane’s landfall and the images we are seeing via the internet and t.v. is making our jaws drop with disbelief.

Wednesday night, I had a nightmare that was one of those dreams, one keeps waking up from only to find themselves still in a dream and I remember waking up the first time (thinking I was awake, but I wasn’t), and walking out to see everyone packing up and feeling drawn back into my home, when that happen, I woke up (or at least thought I had) and when I walked out, what had been my neighborhood..most of it was gone (I know I know, but the dream was just terrifying) and the third time it had to do with seeing plywood and rebuilding everywhere…by then I woke up and it was 4 a.m. in the morning..little did I realize 6 hours later, I would be leaving with my inlaws.

Prayers to all who have left, are going to try to ride it out or know people who live in the area.

Thinning the Faith

I remember a time that I had meatloaf, but because I didn’t have the right ingredients, I tried to substitute the ingredients instead and as well as the meatloaf tasted, it could have tasted better, had I not only used the right ingredients that was called for but also followed the directions exactly instead of trying to do it on my own.In a way, following the Christian faith is the same way.

We run into a danger of living a false belief, when trying to adapt God to what we think He is and what we think it should be when in reality, we are mixing in the ingredients for a distorted view of Christianity.

“Jesus did not simply accept the outcasts, He changed them. Yes, He touched the leper, but that touch healed him. Yes, He ate with the prostitutes and tax-collectors (who were notoriously dishonest), but He didn’t encourage them to be better prostitutes and more proficient tax-collectors, He transformed their lives and brought them to repentance.

The inclusion Jesus practiced and that we must practice today is a transformational inclusion. Otherwise, we are hurting people more than we are healing them, and that is certainly not the path of justice.” Source: Americans for Truth

Romans 1:18-19 (King James Version)
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

As much as we want to believe that God is a God of Love, if we are honest about the scriptures and do a thorough study of the bible, we find that He is also a God of judgment and He doesn’t grade on a curve. God does not like sin.

He doesn’t say….if you skate by, I don’t care…

As we read His word, we see that , if He does not like it, He has no room for it and will not stand for it. He loves the sinner yes. He doesn’t love, however the sin or the continue committing of the sin.

Sin is considered fundamentally an offense against Him and He does and will punish sin.

There is no, all will be saved so just keep on sinning. There is redemption from the sin, stop committing the sin and grow in His grace. There will be those who has accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and those who made the free will choice of didn’t.

Saying He isn’t…doesn’t change what is in the Bible and leaves a person in one of two positions.

Either you believe in the Bible or you don’t.

If you don’t believe in the Bible, you’re not a Christian. There is no other way t o it, because being a Christian means being a follower of Christ and His Word and belief in Him and His word, not just bits and parts of His word that makes us feel good and not convicted.

If we feel convicted…maybe because deep down, we know its not right in the eyes of God.

Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” – Luke 6:46-49.

It’s in scripture and if someone is going to profess they are a bible believing, Christian who believes Jesus Christ is their Lord and Saviour part of that is the reality that God does not excuse sin. Even though we are saved, it doesn’t give us a ticket to do whatever we want on earth and then we go to heaven….We are expected, on earth to emulate Christ, NOT to be perfect because the ONLY one who is perfect, is Jesus Christ Himself.
God knows we are human.
We are imperfect.
We are flawed and we will make mistakes but if we knowingly and continue to choose to make those mistakes or to knowing sin knowing it’s wrong, God is not at fault.
We are.

It’s difficult to say we don’t know what God thinks when it’s written in the Good Book for us.

Don’t believe it? Pick up the bible and check it out:

Psalm 78:19-21 19.-Then they spoke against God; They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? “Behold, He struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, And streams were overflowing; Can He give bread also? Will He provide meat for His people?” Therefore the LORD heard and was full of wrath, And a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also mounted against Israel;

John 3:36-”He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Psalm 5:5-The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight: Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Isaiah 13:11-Thus I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud, And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.

There are many occurences where God shows that He is equally a God of redemption and a God of judgement. He is the tough parent who loves but doesn’t let us go unpunished for pushing the boundries.

As Christnotes.org puts it,”In an effort to make the Gospel more seeker-friendly, some Christians avoid talking about God’s wrath, anger, and hatred toward those who have sinned against him. By watering down the wrath of God such people cheapen and diminish the love of God.”

In effect….it cheapens Christ sacrifice on the cross.

Let’s take a look at Romans 1:18-31 (ASV):

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; [they are] gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,. without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;

H. Richard Niebuhr, professor at Yale Divinity School, described this as,”"A God without wrath brought men without sin into a kingdom without judgment through a Christ without a cross.”And in effect…by saying that there is no God of wrath….that man never sin, then what is the point of the cross, but if we are to believe that Christ lived and then died on the cross for us, part of that is because we have to accept the fact that He paid for our sins, due to a a God that is wrathful.”

Romans 5:6-8 (NAS) For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

It never ceases to amaze me that people keep talking about Jesus

William Sloane Coffin….most of us want peace at any price as long as the peace is ours and somebody else pays the price.

as if He was here for just peace although Jesus, himself said, “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34 NIV)
Christ came to offer us hope, freedom from sin, but our world isn’t on this world, but in God’s world.
We must not mistake the world, the society that we live in, as the kingdom that God hopes to build.
The kingdom He is building will be built by His hands not by ours. Until Christ returns, there isn’t peace and won’t be peace and it’s only by Him and through Him will we one day have peace. Until then, we still live in a world that is broken by sin, sin that we by free will caused, but through the blood of Jesus Christ, He paid the price so we are freed and have hope.
If we use Matthew Henry’s Commentary to look at this verse, it goes simply:

The apostle begins to show that all mankind need the salvation of the gospel, because none could obtain the favor of God, or escape his wrath by their own works. For no man can plead that he has fulfilled all his obligations to God and to his neighbor; nor can any truly say that he has fully acted up to the light afforded him.

The sinfulness of man is described as ungodliness against the laws of the first table, and unrighteousness against those of the second. The cause of that sinfulness is holding the truth in unrighteousness. All, more or less, do what they know to be wrong, and omit what they know to be right, so that the plea of ignorance cannot be allowed from any. Our Creator’s invisible power and Godhead are so clearly shown in the works he has made, that even idolaters and wicked Gentiles are left without excuse. They foolishly followed idolatry; and rational creatures changed the worship of the glorious Creator, for that of brutes, reptiles, and senseless images.

They wandered from God, till all traces of true religion must have been lost, had not the revelation of the gospel prevented it.

MHCThe nature of man, whether pagan or Christian, is still the same; and the charges of the apostle apply more or less to the state and character of men at all times, till they are brought to full submission to the faith of Christ, and renewed by Divine power. There never yet was a man, who had not reason to lament his strong corruptions, and his secret dislike to the will of God.

For whatever may be pretended,as to the sufficiency of man’s reason to discover Divine truth and moral obligation, or to govern the practice aright, facts cannot be denied.

And these plainly show that men have dishonored God by the most absurd idolatries and superstitions; and have degraded themselves by the vilest affections and most abominable deeds.

This is coming from the NEW TESTAMENT, so it’s not easy to say, it’s not for us…Because the truth is that God’s word is still relevant today as it was yesterday.

Even Pastor Steven W. Cornell argued that,

Yet when Christians oppose practices the bible clearly condemns , it is amazing to notice how quickly some people appeal to Jesus’ words, “Judge not, lest you be judged.”

Another more subtle way people misuse this saying is to excuse personal responsibility for making judgments. “Who am I to judge?” they ask, “After all, Jesus did say, ‘Judge not.’”

Jesus’ intention is not to excuse us from all moral judgments, or to promote an individualistic attitude. Our modern society constantly conditions us to resist strong convictions about right and wrong. Jesus, however held to such convictions and taught them with authority.

We are responsible for the free will, for the personal choices that we make.

It’s not a conditional, we can blame others and deflect the blame for the personal choices that no one else, but ourselves make about ourselves and our lives. What we choose to do, often tends to be more in our control than we sometimes want to admit.

Who makes us lie?

Who makes us feel right to gossip?

Who makes us choose to handle a situation in bad graces versus with a sense of dignity and love as characterized by Jesus Christ?

It’s almost like expecting to live life with one foot in God’s world and one foot in the world and when things go wrong, we expect to be enable rather than say, “Hey I made a bad choice” and take responsibilty for bad moral judgements or actions.

It is all too easy,” writes the late N.T. scholar F.F. Bruce, “to believe in a Jesus who is largely a construction of our own imagination-an inoffensive person whom no one would really trouble to crucify. But the Jesus we meet in the Gospels, far from being an inoffensive person, gave offense right and left. Even his loyal followers found him, at times, thoroughly disconcerting. Jesus did not go about mouthing pious platitudes; had he done so, he would not have made as many enemies as he did.

Jesus offer to us the truth, but to accept the truth was and is to also accept the harsh fact that we live in an ugly, broken sin filled world where there are people unsaved, who don’t know Christ, or who know Him but choose of their own free will to reject Him.
We live in an imperfect world where it’s not about us and not even about God, but about the “I”. With God there is no “I”, there is and always will be, only “Him”.
There are three actual conditions that are shared that can be used to determine the situation:
  1. When behavior is clearly commanded by God and that includes going to the ONE source, The Bible. Not to a website about the bible, or a pastor, but THE STRAIGHT SOURCE: The Bible. If a person doesn’t believe that the bible is the infallible word of God, in all honesty, what argument is there? On whose moral basis other than scripture are they going to base this on?
  2. God clearly defines without question what is forbidden without an “if”, “and” or “but.
  3. There are some matters that God leaves open to personal responsibility and judgment.

Though the pastor does point out, “However, to agree with God’s clearly stated standards does not constitute unlawful judging–unless, of course, it involves hypocrisy. “

The Christian walk is rewarding but it can also be a walk of balance. It’s so vital that we keep seeking our Father and finding that balance in our walk. It’s not a free for all, or a “get out of ticket” card.

It’s helpful and encouraging to keep in walk with other Christians that we know without a doubt, are spiritual mature and for ourselves, to find that time to seek God in His word and to read God’s word each day if possible, and in every situation instead of trying to make it up as we go.

God is the tough love parent. He loves us and wants to guide us and direct us but also knows to that for us to love Him without conditions, He also has to allow us to make those choices on our own. I wonder how it must pain Him, when we only seek Him when we are in trouble or when it’s ONLY convenient for us rather than all the time.

Gentle Friend,

Do you place conditions in your relationship with God? Do you take the time to really seek His word and see what He wants to offer?

What can you do for yourself to take that steps to not thin your walk with God but to walk an authentic walk with our Heavenly Father?

Heavenly Father, I pray that I seek an authentic walk with You Lord that isn’t so thinned, so watered down so cushioned that rather than following You faithfully, I live a faith of blindness and cushions. Remove the blinders Lord, Remove the cushions and I pray You hear this servant’s call to live a simple and authentic faith with You that includes both the loving and the harsh truth of Your words.

In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Shared Bibles

The other night, I finished placing bible tabs on both my husband’s bible and my own and as I was doing so, I marvel every more, the similarities and differences in our bibles.

It’s made by the same manufacturer, they both serve the same purposes, but there are obvious differences in the two.

The obvious of course is that his is a dark navy blue and mine is well, pink (big surprise right?).

Although, both are devotionals, his is divided into Mon.,Tues.,Wed, you get the picture, lol.

In the same way, men and women are different yet similiar. Same story, I know, heard it time and time again, but God really had blessed us with these differences to make us fit for the different roles that we play in each other’s lives and in the grand scheme of things beyond the world we just know and the culture we just know.

Matthew 19:4-6 NIVHaven’t you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

If everyone is doing the same job, quite truthfully how can we get anything done?

It’s our differences that make us unique and why try to undo what God has created? Is it really that bad that we have to be a carbon copy of everything and everyone?

We celebrate our similarities but then under the same breathe, think nothing of buying shoes, clothes and cosmetics to accentuate and celebrate our differences but don’t allow ourselves to fill comfortable in the roles that God has given us. It’s not meant to divide us but to unite us.

Every try to fit two pieces of a puzzle that are the same? Doesn’t work does it? Just falls apart.

As I put the last tabs on my bible, I handed it over to my husband to see what he thought of it and his first comment was, “Funny how the tabs fit differently on yours than it does mine and they are the exact same type and brand that both bibles are using.”

It’s a subtle reminder from God that we all have common goals but that our differences can be our assets and not our handicaps.

Both bibles contain the same word of God; They were both NIV, they were both devotionals, but even the devotionals in them were geared for different aspects of our lives…The devotionals my husband were non-relatable to the challenges, the encouragement and the convictions I would face in my life, no more than the devotionals in my bible would not fit his.

Oh there were some that although not worded the same, came to the same conclusion and he and I could use, but there were plenty that were geared more to what he would face and I never would and could expect to encounter.

Did it make me want his instead? Not really.

Did mine make him want mine instead? Not really.

They both were going to serve the same purpose for us, but also had different wording that he and I would need separately and it wasn’t a bad thing at all.

The same can be said about our lives and the roles that we play. A husband doesn’t necessarily have to be a mother to understand what his wife is going through because just playing the role isn’t going to give him the complete picture.

He will never understand the emotions, the hormones and just the experience of being pregnant for 9 months and carrying that life we both are now raising; It’s just not going to happen, but it doesn’t devalue his role as my husband, as the father of our children.

No more than the fact that I can never and will never fully comprehand or understand the things he does and the role he plays at work but that doesn’t make me less of a wife or as a mother of his children.

I praise God for our differences because it helps us appreciate and understand our role together as husband and wife; As father and mother and as two human beings created by ONE God, for His plan and will.
