So…..I wanted to download a book to read today, but the internet was down.

I can hear all the gasps everywhere at that thought, but don’t worry….cable company was doing some maintenance work and the internet was back on, eight hours later, but that’s not the story….kinda.

I have reached the point that me and e-books, er e-readers, have come to an uneasy truce.

I get that they are useful, store more books, and I enjoy being able to read books, that I would normally think twice about buying since it boils down to, are they worth finding space on the book shelf for.

However…….

No help when the power is out….

The internet goes down…..

And a theoretical question of what happens if the book gets deleted, or wiped out and there is no way to restore them or get a new book.

See, I’m a bookworm, a book lover, a book reader and I.must.have.books.to.read.

All I could think of is…but but but…there’s this book….this book I wanted to download and read and now I can’t and its out there…waiting to be read…and I can’t read it…what do I do…

So it lead me to think….back again to the pros and cons of e-readers…

Yes I can highlight them, but I have my, one, (seriously, I can’t just have one favorite book then the others feel alone and mistreated), favorite book, that is dog-earred, highlighted, notes fill the margins and its read and re-read and re-read again…..Yet with an e-reader, although they are highlighted….its not the same…

But as the internet came back on and I was able to download what I wanted to download, it hit me again……

No matter where I am and where I go…the books go with me.

Either way, I just can’t live without books….

Funny thing, my youngest has taken up the love of reading too and although I download some of my youngest favorite books on the e-reader, it was requested that I also buy, printed books for my youngest, because they preferred and enjoyed the feel of the printed, bound book in their hand.

Some things never change…..

Love it! Some things never change. There are good and bad to both. They are both necessary. Love that your kids enjoy books and hope this continues for them throughout high school.

Absolutely, and with the advancement in today’s technology, they still have both their places.

It was funny being asked for the “real books” though, lol.

With the e-readers, its been nice for buying books that, I might otherwise not buy, due to:

      1. An x amount of bookshelf is available so I have to ask myself, is this work getting and not have to worry about making space, and

      2. Ease of lending and borrowing without worrying about losing the book or it not being returned that has happen in the past with previous favorite books….not that I mind; They are in good homes that loved the books just as much as I do, but still…nice to have them come home….buhahahhaha.
