This Week’s “In Other Words”

His word is a book of instructions, guidelines, and boundaries. If we study the Word, learn His ways, and submit to His Word,we are protected.

–Laura Velez, Psalm 91-He who dwells

Currently I am working through, Psalm 91-He Who Dwells by Laura Velez and it is a very encouraging bible study.

What Laura does, is she breaks down Psalm 91, verse by verse and through the study, encourages the reader to lean on the Bible, letting go of their fear(s) and trust in Jesus.

Simple.

Yet, also not so simple for many as well.

As Laura shares in her e-book, “If we study the Word, learn His ways, and submit to His Word,we are protected.“, but for many, its hard not to have, an almost, one foot in the world and one foot in the Bible, versus planting both feet in God’s word and trusting Him.

That takes a lot of faith and its a scary faith at that, at the same time, but when you stop and think about it, doesn’t the bible reminds us that we are given:

7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7, New King James Version)

Easier said then done, yes, that is so true, but it means finding it within us to respond with trust and faith than, well fear.

Matthew Henry Commentary (MHC, as I sometimes just use), had powerful words to talk about 2 Timothy and the passage that 2 Timothy 1:7 came from:

Paul exhorts Timothy to hold fast the Holy Scriptures, the substance of solid gospel truth in them. It is not enough to assent to the sound words, but we must love them.

The Christian doctrine is a trust committed to us; it is of unspeakable value in itself, and will be of unspeakable advantage to us.

It is committed to us, to be preserved pure and entire, yet we must not think to keep it by our own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us; and it will not be gained by those who trust in their own hearts, and lean to their own understandings.

Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong.  1 Corinthians 16:13 CEB

We live in an oft cynical world that is define by emotions that are ever changing like waves that crash or sometimes are flat.

We opt to try and live a life, like we are trying to stay balance on a fence, but from personal experience, we know what happens when we try to approach life like that….yes….that’s right…we can lose our balance and fall easily one way or the other.

So as a believer…what to do?

Hold on, Hang on, Dig deep into God’s Word and allow it to take root, to grow, to develop and challenge and change us from within.

It’s more than just a solution but a foundation that will help carry through the challenges that life presents, but as Laura challenges us, “”If we study the Word, learn His ways, and submit to His Word,we are protected.

Can you…Will you….Need a little encouragement, here’s a great quote to remind us that we can make it through:

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

      Loni,

It’s a joy participating in, “In Other Words” and a great way to get back into the blogging groove again.

For a short bible study, “Psalm 91-He Who Dwells, really helps encourage looking a little deeper than, “at a glance” at passages.

We treat studying God’s word like its an “elective” we can choose to take if want. Something to fill in the time around the mandatory classes we have to take. You’re right we need to dig deep into God’s word and allow it to take root in our lives. Far beyond an “elective” but a neccesity of life for all eternity. Thanks for hosting today.

      Amen!
Karen, I really just love how you really dug deep into what this week’s quote was and it would be difficult to share without just re-posting your entire blog post, because it is all good,, lol, but have to reshare a quote from what you had shared,,No matter what area in our spiritual classroom we are currently in we need to continue to move forward and not to drop out and quit. We need the determination to better ourselves and to learn from our mistakes, to seek God’s protection. The Teacher has put a lot into the lessons we need to learn, it would do us well to do our best to learn them, to actually be teachable. It’s protection for our souls, its peace for our minds. .

This is not something we just learn and file away but we apply and continue to learn and grow throughout our lives!

Love what you have to share with everyone!
