Scripture Memorization for 2012-Come Join Me!

Scripture Memorization for 2012

Scripture memorization….well….any form of memorization, is something that I’ve always struggled with and would often rely on post it notes, notebooks, a dayplanner that goes missing on a daily basis and unsuccessfully, calendar reminders via the phone.

However, no matter what, I seem to fall short of doing the one thing I want to do which has always been to, memorize scripture.

With it being the new year, I resolved, for 2012, to memorize scripture, which I plan on doing with several methods.

First of all, I’m participating in “More to Be”, Immersed Challenge, for 2012. With scripture cards printed out, as provided by Elisa @moretobe of “More to Be“, contract, printed and sent to my accountability partner, Ginger @heresmycuplord of “Here’s My Cup.

Second, I discovered there is a great app out there that looks to be very useful.

It’s called the, “Bible Memory Verse” app that can be found in the Itunes store and is a free app.Bible Memory Verse

I’m not sure if there is one similar to that for the Android, but this particular app, has “flashcards” to help with scripture memorization and several useful features like:

  •  review frequency process to allow users to set the day of the week that groups of verses should be reviewed
  • way to record you reading the verse to playback
  • several bible versions

Don’t worry, not being paid for this, but I’m more visual, so for me, this is not only helpful, but when on the go and say, waiting at the doctor’s office, or where-ever, to use for reviewing selected scripture verses.

Here’s some screenshots of the app:

So as you can see, trying to use whatever I can, to make memorizing scripture for 2012, successful.

There are several great plans that are out there and the biggest key is, find one that works for you….not just because everyone else is doing it, but one that works for your particular schedule, spiritual needs and something you know, would keep you encouraged and motivated to use.

If you’re interested in what’s out there, here are some ideas:

If you have any other suggestions for either sites offering ways to memorize scripture or even free downloadables, please feel free to share them in the comment area.

It helps to have an accountability partner and if you want to just drop by on Saturday to share how you are doing, please do so.

So….How about you?

Are you memorizing scripture for 2012?

If so, how about joining me and others who are memorizing scripture, and share what methods, or if you are participating in any form of scripture memorization challenge online, share what challenges you are participating in.

While at it, grab the grab back button for the Scripture Memorization the 2012 linkup that is on the right hand sidebar, under my grab back button, and post a link to your blog and come back on Saturday,if you want to participate here, monthly, to share the list of scriptures you are planning to memorize for the month of January 2012, after which, I will post on January 28, 2012, a “How did you do” update.

If you are a fan of, “Sunflower Faith” on Facebook, I will post, each Saturday, on facebook, a “How you are doing” discussion and follow up there, so you can share your tips, advice, prayers and success at memorizing scripture for the year 2012.

Each month, I will post a new “Scripture Memorization Challenge” for just that month, so don’t feel like you have to commit to a whole year, if you can follow every month, great, but if you happen to be able to join me and others only on a specific month, then, that’s great too.

I hope to hear from you then!

Share your triumphs, tips and advice for scripture memorization.

For our first Saturday update, come back here and , share the verses you will be memorizing for January 2012.

Make sure to add your blog link, grab the participation button for January 2012, and if you write a post about your participation or just simply about memorizing scripture, add a link back to your blog.

Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, and Google plus!

In the Billy Graham book Nearing Home he really encourages us to memorize scripture while we are young…don’t wait until your mind is fading. So I will give it my best shot. Memory work is not my best thing…I may not do too many in one month, my mind is so full of “Stuff”. Thanks for spurring me on to keep God’s Word in my heart!

    • Lol…I’ll keep you cover in prayer and if you don’t mind, the same for me…I need post it notes..if I don’t see it, its out of sight, out of mind, so memorizing scripture is a MAJOR challenge for me.

Stopping by from Do Not Depart’s Hide His Word link-up

I’ve been using Scripturetyper to help me memorize Romans 8, but Katie also mentioned another site that is similar called memverse.com. I also use the RememberMe Bible memory app on my Droid which has been a great help. It’s nice to find all these resources out there.

    • Joyce,

Love the tip about Scripturetyper….that is SO neat how they have an option to print out memory cards on business cards and even a widget for blogger (Hopefully they would do one for WordPress too).
Signing up to that site tomorrow to try it out.

I’m starting a January 2012 Scripture Memorization starting tomorrow, if you want to drop by and join in….Use any Scripture Memory challenge, just more of a hey, this is what I’m doing, so others can get some ideas and a way to keep in touch, to encourage each other…

I’m going to do the “Scripture Memorization” as a monthly thing,so no one feels like they have to commit to a whole year, but just a month by month if they want or if it works better, and each Saturday on my Facebook fan page ( https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sunflower-Faith/249461529407 ), do a little check in so if anyone needs prayer, encouragement or just a hey this is how I’m doing, they can post and participate there as well.
