My Thoughts
“How to be Perfect” by Daniel M. Harrell really just impressed me as I read it; Written about him and 20 other members of his Boston congregation, they embark in a month long experiment in living out the book of Leviticus and discovering the impact it had on their lives.
What follows was an inspiring look, not to mention a different look, at Leviticus, and how it setup an example of both the power of obedience but the necessity of grace and how we are being taught how essentially, we can’t find grace ourselves, but have a need to allow God’s grace to live in our lives.
This is going beyond just living, but how Leviticus is an example of showing our need for God’s love and care and how He cares for us.
What I found intriguing about “How to be Perfect” is how by trying to navigate through learning and understanding about Leviticus as it was applied then and trying to live it in a 21st setting, how it reveal more of the falliable nature of men and how it open up more vulnerabilty and need for our Father in Heaven.
This was an intriguing book for me as I read it around the same time, I was working through reading the Bible and for me, getting through Leviticus,Deuteronomy and Numbers was always difficult, till one day, prior to reading, “How to be Perfect”, I read that it helps to just read through the first five books together, because they are back to back with each other and play off of each other, so reading them together helps to give an understanding of why we need to understand the background of Leviticus.
It’s with this, that “How to be Perfect” is,well, perfect for anyone who is reading through the Book of Leviticus and like many in the 21st century, probably asked themselves, “Why do we need to understand Leviticus or read it in the first place”.
As I read “How to be Perfect”, it began to make sense to me, the importance of the Book of Leviticus that I honestly feel I would be less as likely to skip over it.
To top it off, they even have a Facebook page that you visit at: the Living Leviticus Group on Facebook; So if you want to learn more about how the Leviticus Experiences, I strongly suggest you read, “How to be Perfect” by Daniel M. Harrell.
