A History of Christianity DVD Review

A History of Christianity, is one of those dvd’s that intrigued me when I first saw the promotion for it and found I couldn’t just watch it myself, but wanted to share with my family and friends to see their reaction and everyone was just captivated by this series, with hopes to be able to see more of Diarmaid MacCullough’s work in the future.

Focusing in the first of the series, Christianity’s influence in the East, A History of Christianity, takes viewers on an intriguing and enthralling look at how Christianity both influence and has developed in the Eastern side of the world, from what we in the West, are normally use to.

Without giving away too much details, it creates an evocative looks at how we, in the West, perceive Christianity and also at the same time, creates a insightful look at what we do believe versus from what our Eastern Christian brothers and sisters believe and practice.

More historical development rather than focus on biblical  history, as far as doctrine, in the first of the series, we are given an inside look at Christianity that for many in the West, seems distant and foreign from what we know.

The second of the series, promises a look at the Western path of Christianity, but many will find the first of this series, a sense of hope and promise in Christianity’s strength and resisilance to many attempts to either assimilate or quiet our faith.

Although not really suited for bible study groups, this is a great personal viewing or with close friends, and sure to create provocative questions in the meantime as we discover a different side of Christianity that those in the West may not be aware of.
