DVD Description

A rude foreigner moves into the garden, testing Antonio’s patience.

Antonio should probably be called “Brave Ant”, for the heroic way he leads his Army Ants in defending the garden from, say, Big Bully Croaker. But when some foreign ants move into the garden, their strange ways challenge Antonio to use something other than physical strength and military experience to solve a problem. Featuring Tim Conway as Hermie and special guest-star Fred Willard (“Wall-E”, “Kim Possible”, “Chicken Little”, etc) and includes the original song “How Could Anyone Not Love Me” and the cartoon short “Caterpilla” (a spoof of Cinderella). Lesson is based on Luke 10:27 “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (ICB)

My Review

“”Antonio Meets His Match: Its About Being a Good Neighbor”  is a very cute video and it had not only the kids giggling throughout it, but even myself as we watched this video together.

With an emphasis on, Luke 10:27, this cute animated movie helps children learn about the importance of loving our neighbors and not just the people we live next door, but anyone and for adults, this is a timely lesson, since there are times when we have people in our lives that we feel are unloveable or are like sandpaper, but our Heavenly Father can love us for our own faults, so we should strive, to learn to love and yes, work somehow, even the unloveable or as Antonio felt about Angus, the annoying in our eyes, while following  what can feel like a hard command by our Heavenly Father.

What was a pleasant surprise was the “Why” questions that the kids asked throughout the DVD, “”Antonio Meets His Match: Its About Being a Good Neighbor”  and it was encouraging how this is a great way to discuss ‘life lessons’ with the children about being a follower of Christ and bearing good testimony to our Father.

If you are looking for a not so sugary sweet DVD but also one that captures what our Heavenly Father encourages each of us to mature as Christians and strive to follow, I highly suggest, “”Antonio Meets His Match: Its About Being a Good Neighbor”.

This is perfect for Sunday School teachers, to watch with kids as a family and just when you have moments when similiar situations may arise and you and your child can watch together to get an idea of how to handle certain social situations.

Word Filled Wednesday-Acts 17:10-12 (NKJV)

PhotobucketWhat I found intriguing about the Bereans is that they just didn’t accept everything they heard, but they searched God’s word thoroughly each day, made it a constant part of their lives and really seek to understand and discern if what they heard daily in their lives, was align with what God’s word had to say.

As you probrably figure by now, reading the Bible is a HUGE thing in my life and not only something that I’m a strong advocate about but something that, toward the end of 2009, I really committed myself to be like the Bereans to make a permanent part of everyday of my life.

It’s exciting to have my husband joining me and a few others in our group in reading through the bible and this in itself is a blessing and part of the conviction our Father laid in our hearts and through a powerful set of sermons that our pastor has been giving since, well really October and all the more stronger with the new year that our lives is about choices.

God does what He is doing, not out of obligation or have it His way, but love.

He LOVES us so much that He wants us to be guided to the right way and not the wrong way, but we can’t assume what that right way is, so it leaves to the importance of really reading His word to understand what He wants for each of us.

The bible study group we are hosting, is taking a new direction as we find ourselves as individuals and as a group, wanting to really be more in His word and in addition to thinking of just challenging ourselves to read through the bible, the majority of us, have been not only committing but have made it a daily habit of working in our Life Journals (you can found out more what that is about at lifejournal.cc) and using what is called the “S.O.A.P.” method.

in order that you might grow. Please note, it is not that you may know. Certainly you can?’t grow without knowing. But you can know and not grow. The Bible was written not to satisfy your curiosity but to help you conform to Christ?’s image. Not to make you a smarter sinner but to make you like the Savior. Not to fill your head with a collection of biblical facts but to transform your life."-from Living by the Book: by Dr Howard Hendricks.

To help my fellow brothers and sisters and to share with you as well, I created a very simple bookmark for them and for you to print out and laminate to keep in your bible to help you remember, for yourself, a really great way to read His word and bring it just a deeper level and not just skimming the surface.

From the MHC:

The noble conduct of the Bereans.

The Jews in Berea applied seriously to the study of the word preached unto them.

They not only heard Paul preach on the sabbath, but daily searched the Scriptures, and compared what they read with the facts related to them. The doctrine of Christ does not fear inquiry; advocates for his cause desire no more than that people will fully and fairly examine whether things are so or not. Those are truly noble, and likely to be more and more so, who make the Scriptures their rule, and consult them accordingly.

Notice what the MHC had to say?

They not only heard Paul preach on the sabbath, but daily searched the Scriptures, and compared what they read with the facts related to them. The doctrine of Christ does not fear inquiry; advocates for his cause desire no more than that people will fully and fairly examine whether things are so or not.

They didn’t just follow what someone else was doing or relied,JUST, on someone else word, but they searched for themselves, God’s word and sought His word daily, on their own and then, compared.

This is why reading the Bible is so important to me.

It’s not just about what someone else has to say, or their opinion, but comparing it always with the firm foundation and truth of our Heavenly Father’s word first and foremost too.

Not just because someone else said, this is the better way-I check to see if they are talking their way, or God’s way.

Not just because someone said this is the only way, because I make sure they are talking that they mean it’s only by God’s way…not theirs.

Reading the bible has become so important and so vital these days that I can’t see or feel anything else can go above that and reading the bible isn’t about a personal marker or achievement, because the truth is that we can never get enough of His word and there is no measurement that works with His measurement.

Though I plan on reading through the bible this year, this is a never-ending desire, not a quest to complete by set time, but  the truth is that I may not complete it in 90 days day, or in one year, because this is not about personal achievement and shouldn’t be, it’s about being like the Bereans and gaining better understanding, no matter what I do, to fully understand and be enriched in and through His word.

As I read Acts 17:10-12 (NKJV), it’s a constant reminder that their first reaction wasn’t of “oh okay, whatever you said”, but immediately turning to His word and going, “Lord, what do YOU have to say?”.

Prayers that we be like the Bereans who seek His word each day and not strive to fast pace all areas of our life including our spiritual growth.

Be it via one reading plan or another, or just picking up the bible, there is no reason not to spend time everyday with His word and use it as first counsel no matter what the circumstances because it is relevant about everything in our life and popular culture and thought will come and go, but never, God’s Word.

I seek Him still through my Life Journal daily bible readings with my church and going over Sunday’s sermons and letting deeper reflection of what our Father has to say, but I want to be like the Bereans where it’s not enough and  keep seeking His word, every single day and my bible gets a little bit more battered looking and more marked up, because as the saying goes, “A worn up bible is a sign of a well fed soul”.

A pastor for Moody Bible Church by the name of Alan Redpah actually is said to advised believers to “wreck” their bible every 10 years.

I look at mine and it’s barely 2 years old and it’s well worn, pages highlighted, notes written in a majority of the bible and already falling apart. Prayers that is a good thing there!

I tell those who asked me what happen and I tell them, “I take my bible everywhere and I mean everywhere”. It’s carried in my purse (which is why I look for a compact size that fits in a purse), when we vacation, that’s the first thing I pack, I carry it to church, I’ve spent staying up some nights reading from it, studying from it, with bible studies and even with bible studies that actually don’t call for the bible, I still use it and bring it with me.To find out more about WFW or how to participate, drop by Amydeanne's "The 160 Acre Woods".

That is my first and will be my only reference and source before everything.

So let’s strive to be like the Bereans and keep this quote from J.L. Packer in mind,”If I were the devil, one of my first aims would be to stop folk from digging into the Bible.“.

I finally was able to sit down and go through a cookbook I purchased.

I found something that I would like to share with everyone.

The person who put it there said He tried this 6 years ago and hasn’t gotten over it. I tried it 2 years ago and its the best I’ve ever had!!

Salvation Saturation

This is a recipe that almost all ingredients won’t cost you a dime.

However, someone has paid the price for you to receive it.

In order to make Salvation Saturation you must find a person who is lost in their sin.

Once that is located, the ingredients are as follows:
1 Lost Sinner
1 large Dose of Conviction
1 Gracious God (Provided free of charge)
1 Large Glass of Repentance
1 large Heaping of Godly Sorrow

The photo is not my creation but was shared through a Yahoo group.

1 Willing Savior (Provided)
1 Huge Portion of Grace
1 Bloody Cross (Provided by the Savior)
1 New Creature
1 Holy Spirit

Once you have all the ingredients the 1 large dose of conviction will be sent by the Holy Spirit.

It will begin to stir in the heart of the lost sinner.

1 large heaping of Godly sorrow will make him see himself the way God sees him.

The 1 gracious God has already provided the 1 willing Savior and together the 2 have made the way for large portion of grace and 1 heaping of mercy that was shed on the 1 bloody cross.

Once these ingredients have settled in the heart of the 1 lost sinner then the 1 large glass of repentance will be poured into the 1 lost sinner which will produce a beautiful new creature.

After new creation is produced- praise God!

"Becoming a Woman of Faith" Book Review

Becoming A Woman Of FaithAuthor: Cynthia Heald
Published:2009, Navpress
Details:Paperback, 120 pages
ISBN:0785272445    (isbn13: 9780785272441)

“Becoming a Woman of Faith” is an impressive look at developing a faith based life in Jesus Christ. Perfect for a “quick” bible study or for short bible study groups, “Becoming a Woman of Faith” provides a look at what it means to be a follower of Christ beyond just knowing the right scripture to use.

Filled with personal ancedotes from the author and plenty of space for personal reflections, I enjoyed reading “Becoming a Woman of Faith” and like the fact that this is perfect for going on vacations or trips and still being able to have a bible study to work on without concern of losing pace.

Ms. Heald provides notable quotes from noted individuals as A.W. Tozer, while in between it all, really having the individual deal into topics of what is having faith and how to use personal struggles to grow one’s faith.

Something that came to mind as well as I read through “Becoming a Woman of Faith” was the fact that “Becoming a Woman of Faith”  makes a great gift idea as well, for new or even Christians who might have fallen off their walk and help them learn the basic of building a strong faith based in and through our Heavenly Father.

Well written, easy to carry in a purse or tote back, “Becoming a Woman of Faith” , I highly recommend this for moms on the go and looking for bible studies that are accomodating for a busy schedule, for women to take on trips or just for a gift.

Book Reflections-Chapter 15 "A Glorious Sense of Possibility"

I was thinking long and hard about this sentence from, “Becoming More than a Good Bible Study” girl,“Remember life is not a sprint. If you need to park on some of these commands for a while, then do it. Ask Jesus to help you fully understand the joys of obedience. Also, ask Him how you can be a woman fully committed to obedience without slipping into a legalistic approach to life. We must always remember our goal is pursuing revelations of Him. Our focus can’t be just following rules but following Jesus Himself.”.

I’m a people pleaser as well as being introverted, shy and socially awkward.

 Full list I know.

Long story.

Another post, one day.

As I read this, I reflected back on last week’s sermon about “Choices” that our pastor has been preaching on and just having that feeling of, I’m the “Road less taken” type of person.

I guess, because after spending a life of trying to conform and please and always falling short, eventually I got tired and realized too, that for me to be a more authentic and realistic person, I had to stop worrying about trying to fit in and start caring about our Heavenly Father more.

Seeing God isn't for the purpose of being wowed.
Part of my Life Journal reading was the following:

25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?

31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

34 “Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? 35 It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Luke 14:25-35, New King James Version)

What I seek is a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father that is real, authentic, not legalistic and bound on pleasing others or thinking if I do the same thing over and over it will save me, but a real, living, one on one, convicting, challenging, encouraging, praising, relationship that was back to being authentic.

I didn’t want a relationship with Him that is or was based on what I DEEMED to be a relationship with Him or boxed in or as Lysa wrote on page 178,“Am I overspiritualizing in my life? What if I don’t have those experiences, or what if an experience I attribute to God, isn’t from Him at all?”

There are times when I feel like God has placed “speed bumps” in my life as a way of slowing me down and/or getting my attention as if to say,”Are you really looking at Me or are you looking at what you think or attribute to be Me but really is about you, or about someone else or self-idolation or just plain looking in the wrong places”?

Humbling thoughts I know.

As Lysa shared, “God isn’t in the business of creating change to impress people. He is in the business of impressing on people of their need to  be changed. There’s a big difference“.

Sometimes it is is so easy to get caught up in something that we are doing, whether we know it or not, we lose focus and it no longer really becomes about Him and may intentionally or unintentionally become either idolization of something, self-idolization or just completely really missing the point of something.

Be honest, there are many times I would like to feel like I’m a part of something, but then, in the process, I think I might end up missing out seeing the big picture. True the view from the back bleachers may seem not great, but then again, when you think about it, that’s probrably the best seats sometimes too.

It’s not always about being close to the action because in the process, its so easy to get lost and too focus that we can’t see the bigger, grander picture like the people on the top bleachers who can see everything that we who scrambled for the first seats, really can’t see from the people blocking our view.

As said earlier,”Seeing God isn’t for the purpose of being wowed“; Seeing our Father is and should be about having that deeper relationship that sometimes includes taking the least popular route but with more experiences and scenery.

Keeping the people of Haiti in Prayer

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.-2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (New King James Version)

When we came home last night from spending time in fellowship with friends, the images that greeted us as we checked the news was devastating.  Our hearts fell as we quickly lifted up the people of Haiti in prayer, followed with what can we do to help.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being our Father and there in times of joy and in times of grief; Lord, I ask that you cover the people of Haiti, the people who are seeking answers and news of loved ones who are there, the people and organizations who are organizing at every second that passes, to bring relief, comfort and prayers of rescues and miracles in this great time of sadness.

Lord, I dont’ know what words to adequetely say, just pray You lead us all through this time and prayers that as we open our hearts to those in Haiti, we also open our prayers to You to lift all who need Your strength and comfort right now.

Amen.

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)-"No Fear"-Word Filled Wednesday

Photobucket Feel like you have dirty laundry in your past that you just don’t want or could deal with it?

Easier to just let it pile up and keep the door close thinking “out of sight out of mind?

Maybe you’re just dealing with things right now in the present: gossip, stress, broken hearts, broken marriages, or it’s just simply a case you really just don’t want to deal with the laundry period.

Well good news and bad news, but let me give you the bad news first.

You really need to get that laundry done. Unfortunately wearing a purple snow coat over the yellow summer dress to church isn’t really trendy…yet.

The good news though is that while we maybe pushing off wanting to face that dirty load of laundry, our Heavenly Father is wanting us to know that there is nothing too big for Him to handle. He’s like Tide only better and really does get the stains out.

The trouble with fear is that it’s more of a tool for the enemy and though it helps us avoid the things we don’t want to deal with, like that checkbook that needs to be balanced, maybe the fact that we didn’t have that not so great childhood and pretending isn’t working anymore or the fact that your husband really can’t go to work with one yellow sock and a purple and pink stripe sock again.

Whatever it is that we are fearing, eventually, we have to allow ourselves to realize that our Father is in control and He isn’t going to lead us anywhere that His love and grace hasn’t already covered (sound familiar?).

I really hate doing the laundry.

There, I said it in a public forum.

I hate laundry.

Ooooo…laundry is my Darth Vader that taunts me with the fact that if I want to actually be socially acceptable, I’ve got to wear clean clothes (or if I want to be completely anti-social, dirty clothes really isn’t a good way to avoid attention-just draws more attention).

However, eventually, I know I have to get it done. I owe it to my family, to myself and the fact that if I want to ever use the vacumn cleaner again, that I have to also take care of the load(s) of laundry that’s in the laundry room too.

The same with the sins that are in our live, the regrets we just won’t let go of, and the fears, both real and imaginary, that we tend to keep closer to heart than we keep our Heavenly Father’s promises to our heart.

Not a good feeling, just like it’s not a great feeling wearing a pair of socks or jeans, knowing that it’s been (ack), three days since it’s gone through soap counseling in the washing machine.

We can only go so far in our lives, when eventually, we need to go through heart counseling ourselves with our Heavenly Father, and just let go of the things that keep us from moving forward in our lives, and unfortunately, just like a laundry room gone out of hand, a life gone unchecked, is not always an easy process to go through, but a necessary one at that.

By going to Him in prayer and humbliness, and just giving it to Him and letting Him see us through what we need to be seen through to be convicted and refined, we come out much cleaner and refresh in the end and able to truly do what we should do, all the time, and keep not our fears or our regrets close to our hearts, but have room to keep His promises and His word without the unnecessary clutter, getting in the way.

If you haven’t or had been thinking of having a laundry day with your heart, now will be a good time to do so whether than constantly shelving it and thinking not now, not now.

Don’t let fear, regret, whatever it is, keep you from having a closer and cleaner relationship with our Heavenly Father.

As for me.

Sigh. I can hear the washing machine stop. Time to get back to some laundry cleaning myself.

God bless you, Gentle Reader!

Book Reflections-Chapter 14 "Learning to Simply Like Me"

“Becoming more than a good Bible study girl requires a heart free of the entanglements of self-distracting thoughts”-pg. 166 of Becoming Than a Good Bible Study Girl

We can't move forward with God when our past keeps pulling us down. pg 167
I personally think that our worse enemy can be ourselves. Reading Chapter 14, it was a major wake up call that we can create the very stumbling blocks that we strive to avoid as well. For some of us, it could be shame from something in our past that we haven’t forgiven ourselves for though our Heavenly Father already has.

As I read Chapter 14, it was difficult not to think that is many of us who feel that we are unfit to serve for our Heavenly Father and the following came to mind that I wanted to share for many who are quick to judge others based on past mistakes or their lives before Christ had changed them or maybe who judge themselves unfit to serve our Heavenly Father to this day.

A certain church found itself suddenly without a pastor, and a search committee was formed. In due course it received a letter from a man applying for the vacant position. The committee chairman read:

“I am considered to be a good preacher, and I have been a leader in most of the places I have served. I have also done some writing on the side.

“I am over 50 years old, and while my health is not the best, I still manage to get enough work done to please any parish.

“As for references, I am somewhat handicapped. I have never preached anywhere for more than three years. And most of the churches I have preached in have been small, even though they were located in rather large cities. I had to leave some places because my ministry caused riots and disturbances. Even where I stayed, I did not get along too well with other religious leaders, which may influence the kind of references these places will supply. I have also been threatened and physically attacked. I have even gone to jail several times for my preaching.

“I am not particularly good at keeping records. I have to admit I don’t even remember all those whom I’ve baptized. However, if you can use me, I should be pleased to be considered. I feel sure I can bring vitality to your church.”

When the chairman finished reading the letter, the committee members were aghast. How could anyone think that a church like theirs would consider a man who was nothing but a troublemaking, absentminded, ex-jailbird? What was his name? “Well,” said the chairman, “the letter is signed Paul.”

Reading that, the words of Lysa came back from “Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study”,”
For many women within the church, it may be one of the most painful parts of their of their life story. One for which they want to find forgiveness and healing, but are too afriad of being judged to share their secret with anyone”.

It’s amazing how we are quick to bring up the story of the woman that Jesus forgave and saved from stoning by the Pharisess, but are quick to be that way with others or ourselves, forgetting that God’s words isn’t for an inclusive group of people or for another time, but as relevant today as it is yesterday.

There is a difference between vanity and a difference between accepting who we are in Christ now and who we are becoming in and through Christ and that we are vessels for Him to use to His glory, not to make the person next to us happy, or the person who doesn’t know us except maybe through snapshots that WE share through personal choice.

We serve an amazing and loving and forgiving Father and it’s a call that we in turn be His light; His ambassadors and show that to a world that doesn’t share the same forgiveness and understanding like He does.
