For Word Filled Wednesday

Photobucket

This is just one of those time of the year that it’s exciting.
Food, shopping, getting together with people, but in the midst of it all, it’s also a reminder of the blessings that we have for what we have and the ability to do what we do.

I guess, I’m a bit more of a Pollyanna type around this year and probrably explains the mash potato throwing my way, around this time of year, but I see this too as a reminder that as often as we may complain about the circumstances of our lives, sometimes, we are lucky and blessed, yes that word, blessed, to be able to have the greatest blessing of all….salvation in and through our Heavenly Father.

Now…as much as I’m a Pollyanna around this time of year, I also try to make sure I don’t keep the rose color glasses on all the time, because I have bad times myself.

There are some mornings I wake up and it seems that everything that could go wrong, can go wrong and it’s days like that, I realize, I gotta give it to our Father in Heaven, as hard as it may feel like to do that, and if it means sending off an email to prayer warriors and yelling “Prayer Intervention” to help me remember to, where to walk and what choices to make and get a much needed “reality check” and throw in some “accountabilty”, I’m going to need to that, because no one else will.

Turkey day is around the corner and we have a lot to be thankful and it’s sometimes important that if we can’t find it, seek it and if we still can’t find it, there is one thing that is faithful and consistant and that is God is good even when we aren’t and that He loves us no matter what, even if we have days when even loving ourselves is a chore.

It’s my prayer and hopes, Gentle Readers, that you have a beyond just fantastic, but a wonderful and unbelieveable great Thanksgiving and through it all, and every day, remember, God loves you, will love you and always will love you and that if you need anything to plant your feet in that is a strong foundation, there is no better foundation than in and through our Heavenly Father.

Book Reflections-Chapter 8 "But I Want What She Has"

Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl

Ever heard of the saying, “The grass is greener on the other side”?

Maybe “Keeping up with the Joneses”?
Ever stop and realized that you have something that your neighbors next door doesn’t have, that your friends, doesn’t have, that well….really no one has?
Give up?
The answer is you! Yes, you, you are unique and well, so is the person next to you and your neighbor and …….

4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load. (Galatians 6:4-5, New King James Version)

This chapter is a reminder, that yes, we may all yearn to have what the other person can do, but when we take the time to see the gifts that our Heavenly Father has blessed us with, we each have a special gift of our own, to bring to His Kingdom.

Often we see people we may admire far or near, and think…”Wow, they are so perfect” but what we don’t know is what it may took to get to that level, or maybe, under that facade of being perfect, there is more going on then they are sharing with their world.

Chapter 8 is a mindful reminder of Galatians 6:4-6, , that we mustn’t compare ourselves or our lives to others to measure the value God has blessed our own lives with.

We may not have a ministry that is well known, maybe we’re  not good with words, but it doesn’t mean that we haven’t been blessed. Sometimes, our blessings and gifts,  are by virtue of the service that we do in our homes, in our communities or our local church and as my pastor reminded us, many sermons ago, everyday of our lives, is a day we can spend ,”In Service to Him” doing something not for us or in hopes we get recognized, but in purposeful service to our Heavenly Father.

How many of us know those who spend so much time looking at what other people are doing, how they are living on the other side of the fence, that they miss the joy and blessing our Father has laid at our feet right here before us.

"Too many of us live with an uncontrolled thought life." pg. 102

12 For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. (2 Corinthians 10:12, New King James Version)

I’ve known people who spend so much time worrying about what others would think or think up “what if” scenerios, that in the process, they became unhappy or unfufilled. It didn’t matter that the people  that they were idolizing were discovered to be deep in debt, or that the “new purchase” that they thought they knew those people bought, turn out to be bought on sale or secondhand or given as gifts by others, the trouble was that the people  had stuff, that they thought, if they had it too, everyone would be happy, they would be fufilled and things would be perfect.

Doesn’t really work out that easy does it?

Isn’t that how ads work best?

It always has to be something bigger, something new, if you have this, if you do this, yes, you, your life, will finally be complete until the next big thing happens in the next five minutes.

Lysa wrote,“When I compare myself to others and focus on wanting what they have, it quite simply wears me out trying to figure out how to have more, be more and do more”

This isn’t what our Heavenly Father wants for us. He wants us to be free of this.

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:25-34, New King James Version)

It is a loving reminder when we stop looking side to side and start looking upward, that we realize that we all are unique and blessed by our Heavenly Father with our own talents and gifts.

Nails in the Fence

The beginning of the holidays.

What joy!

With it though, for many or for some, comes with it, the reality of dealing with family and/or friends, that we are struggling with having a good relationships with; A time of tension for some or just plain stress.

It’s with prayers and hopes, that you remember first and foremost, that our Heavenly Father does love you always, and like many, as we go into the holiday season, remember that our words and actions can lift as well as be a burden if we are not careful.

But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient-2 Tim 2:23-24 NKJV

The next time you are tempted to say something hurtful to someone just because you’re angry, you might want to stop and remember this story: it’s a keeper. Read it here.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.”

The little boy then understood how powerful his words were. He looked up at his father and said “I hope you can forgive me father for the holes I put in you.”

“Of course I can,” said the father

From “A Place of Worship“:

I think Paul put’s it best when he said people were still worldly based on how they argued. Whether it is about religion or issues at home or at work, patience is the aspect of Love that we should be striving for. It is not an easy aspect to obtain. But the less arguing and more patience, the less worldly and more Holy to God you are.

1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Book Reflections-Chapter 7"She Likes Me, She Likes Me Not"

Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl

I just never seem to feel like I measured enough to fit in anywhere.I was never the most popular girl in school and I don’ tthink I was the most un-popular girl either, because I spent a large portion of going to school, trying not to be noticed, at all.

Even to this day, I tend to have those moments, when I just want to melt in the background and though, there are times, I can be seen with a smile…inside…I feel like the awkward girl who can never belong.

During a meme, while visiting a blog, I stumbled across this quote, that even to this day, still sticks with me: “”We cannot choose whom we will love if we claim to be Christians.” ~Anonymous”

Try this instead: 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35, New King James Version)

Wow.

When we love others, we are living the truth of God out loud"

The trouble with insecurities and being able to love ourselves and not in a self-center or self-idolization way, is that the enemy can use this, use our doubts, to not only question ourselves, but our Father in Heaven and in the process, our relationships with others, both believers and non-believers.

No one can fix this except our Heavenly Father and in and through Him, ourselves.

Nothing can fill this void until we realize that men’s thoughts and emotions are fickle, but our Father…He is consistant and never changing…He is always there. He always will be.

He lays that on us, as a promise and His word is ALWAYS faithful:

10 For the mountains shall depart
      And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.
(Isaiah 54:10, New King James Version)

People are unreliable, but not Him.

He doesn’t deal with cliques, or emotions or judging our worth by what we wear, how much money we do or do not have, or anything else. He deals in the fact that He loves YOU and ME and EVERYONE.

He loved us so much His gift to us was through His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ, who lived and died, for you and me and everyone.

Not a select few.

Everyone.

So the moms at the local P.T.A. won’t talk to you because you don’t live in the right neighborhood, or you homeschool or you don’t, or maybe they just don’t like you for no other reason, then “just because”.

It’s okay.

Really.

He does.

He loves them equally as He loves you.

External achievement never equals internal acceptance. pg. 88 from "Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl"
Lysa shares something that, Robert McGee, who wrote, “The Search of Significance” shared in his book:

“……Loneliness is not relegated only to unbelievers. Ninety-two percent of the Christians attending a recent Bible conference admitted in a survery that feelings of loneliness were a major porblem in their lives. All shared a basic symptom: a sense of despair at feeling unloved and a fear of being unwanted or unaccepted.”

Changes the way you look at others doesn’t it?

Maybe even oneself?

There are days when I just have those days I feel like I just don’t belong. We all do at some point of our lives.

I have to remind myself that I’m not who I think I am and as I read, Chapter 7, it was a reminder that I’m not the only one either.

Lysa points out something that we forget sometimes,..”It’s a choice.”(pg94).

Simple words.

It’s a choice.

We have a choice how we react to others just like they have a choice how to react to us and back to the earlier quote, as Christians, we can’t pick whom we choose to love. We do pick how we choose to act.

Our feelings are a gift from our Father and part of that a gift to choose are we going to act in and with God’s love.

He’s been really challenging and encouraging me in dealing with some of these feelings that I feel I still carry with me; Not wanting to let go of that little girl who never belong, who never seem to be able to find a friend who, well, was just a friend and didn’t just pick and choose what it was about her, that they wanted to be friends with.

That is what makes His word reign above all other words, because it is a constant reminder, He is so much bigger than You and I and anyone, including those who criticize us, who gossip about us, who judge us are.

Because He loves them JUST as much as He loves you and I and sees no division.

He sees a need in you and I and them and anyone to be loved and He steps in and says, I am bigger than that and just as He loves us, He calls us to love each other and ourselves in and through Him and for Him.

I’m not perfect.

I’m imperfect but praise Him for His forgiveness.

I have a long road to go, but when I wonder, will He be there for me, He doesn’t hesistate to remind us that He is:

10 For the mountains shall depart
      And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.
(Isaiah 54:10, New King James Version)

The funny thing, I was sharing with a friend, that I really felt our Father in Heaven, really just strongly laying on my heart, to follow Him and encouraging me to face some things that have been on the back of mind and challenging me to.

I then came here to check to see if the next “Yes to God” book study was posted and when I saw that it had, and it was for Chapter 7, as I read the chapter and came to these verses:

18 “ Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing,
      Now it shall spring forth;
      Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
      And rivers in the desert.
20 The beast of the field will honor Me,
      The jackals and the ostriches,
Because I give waters in the wilderness
      And rivers in the desert,
To give drink to My people, My chosen.
       21 This people I have formed for Myself;
They shall declare My praise. (Isaiah 43:18-21, New King James Version)

See.

We serve an Awesome Father.

Daily Bible Reflections

My Daily Bible Reading

My Daily Bible Reading

Today’s Life Journal Reading is from:

 Matthew 5; Matthew 6; Matthew 7

Scripture:

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16, New King James Version)

Observation:

What does your actions and words say about your walk? Make you stop and think?

Me too.

We love to cook and something that anyone cooks understands that without seasonings or even just salt, food is….well…bland; Cook it with meat, fish, chicken, vegetables and all together, without the seasoning or the salt, the food…well…it just all goes together without really much taste.

With the seasoning and/or salt, it enriches and sets apart each aspect of the dishes and makes them unique.

The same with the Christian walk. We are called to be set apart from the world and if we are like the world, engage in the same activities, the same desires-do people see the world or are they going to see our Heavenly Father?

More than likely, they are not going to see our Heavenly Father, but the world.

We live in a world that is filled with brokenness, with the lost, with darkness and God’s word is as shining light that brings hope and salvation to all that come to Him, and we, we are His light to the world to Him.

A flashlight that is covered with mud is ineffective and if you try an experiment, see that it’s not much help when the light is out and rather than a path being shown, one is stumbling, like others, in a darken room.

That’s not who we are or are called for and this goes not just for when we go to church for fellowship, but in every aspect of our lives, be it on our blogs, FB, Twitter, emails, in daily conversations with friends and acquaintences or even, yes even, with strangers.

If they see us, but they don’t see Him, it’s sometimes time, we need to take a step back ourselves and ask ourselves; When I speak, in the actions that I do, do people see Him, our Heavenly Father, shining in and through me or when I speak do they only see me and do my actions bring comfort and fellowship, or does what I have to say or do, only bring pain and anger?

Huge responsiblity I know, but as a follower of Christ, we are burden, with being a salt in a world that strives to taste and look and act the same.

As followers of Christ, we are burden to be ambassadors to show there is hope and salvation and something better beyond our own personal selfish desires that benefit no one but ourselves and in the end lead to destruction.

Go out in the world so when people see you or hear you, it draws them, not to you, but to Him.

Application:

This is my favorite passage, because it really creates what I call an  “accountability report”. It’s a reminder that everyday we get up and interact with anyone, even our family, our husbands, and even people we don’t know online, offline or just in passing that our lives can touch their life.

When I speak to others, I will not just try my best, not just do my best, but will look and to my best, to make sure to see if the words I speak will be “salt” to others in that it will guide them to and lead them to our Heavenly Father not away.

My prayers and hopes that my blog, reflects Him in all ways and not be used as an “excuse” to sin in secret or selectively but to always and to the best, reflect Him and Him only.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the blessings of Your word, Your love and Your grace; I pray and hope that all of us find ways that we can be like “salt” to the world and a guiding light to You and You only. It’s not about us. It’s never been about us, It will never be about us and should never be about just us.

Lord, it’s my prayer and hope that all will come to know You and that my words and my actions, reflect You and bear testament to You and be a form of encouragment or lesson of learning to walk in Your steps and if I fall, may You rebuke me to conform not to the world, but to You and Your will only.

Thank You Father, Amen.

****Purpose of this post****

Gentle Readers, There are days that I will read a verse or passage and just feel pulled to share here, but there are days when I will read something and just feel, I need to spend the day, in personal contemplation of what is being convey and may just post via Twitter, what passages I have read that day and post nothing on here.

That is what bible reading is about; It’s not about having to write something down everyday; There maybe days when you are reading say, Numbers and it’s just lineages, but other days, you may find yourself dealing with a “powerhouse verse” of the moment and have to just go “WOW” and seek God in personal time and prayer to understand what He is sharing.

I will try to post daily, but particularly on weekends, if I’m sick or I’m just completely in awe of what I’m reading or maybe I am trying to understand what I am reading, I may not post here, I may just write in my Life Journal (hardcopy), because I will find myself having to seek His Word and/or the Commentary and just seek in prayer to understand what our Father in Heaven is seeking to reveal.

Either way.

Reading His Word, is about getting to know Him better and developing your Christian growth and maturity. Do what is right and good for you.

If you do use the Life Journal and participate in the daily readings, I would like to hear from you and your perspective on each day’s reading, when I do have a post up, or feel free to comment on a previous “Daily Bible Reading post” or send me a quick email.

Please feel free to join in the linky that I post below, so others too, who uses the Life Journal/or SOAP method to read the bible can participate.

Don’t feel obligate to have to blog about each passage to be read, but if anything, feel free to share those passages that have the most impact on you that day.

There maybe some days that you may read your daily reading and find nothing to jot down in your journal or on your blog and that’s okay, but there maybe other days, that you will find yourself inspire.

This is about you being encouraged to have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father, and spending each day with Him, You and Him.

It is my prayer and hope that this will be an encouragement to establish a personal daily reading as well.

To find out more about using the S.O.A.P. method, here’s a link to an ehow article and here’s the link to the Life Journal to find out more what it is, and how you can use it for your own daily bible readings. If you don’t want to order the journal or if it’s not available through your local church, another method is simply, buy a journal or notebook or even blog about your life journal readings.

Disclaimer: I am not personally affiliated with the church that the link goes to, but merely share it as a resource of what the Life Journal is, how to order it.

Growing Long Hair Challenge

I received the following comment recently and it was a very powerful testimony that, with permission of the commentor, I would like to share with you, Gentle Readers.

It was a powerful testimony, for it reflects, just the humbling encouragement of our Heavenly Father and it goes beyond just growing one’s hair long, but  how, when we take that challenge to follow our Heavenly Father, trust Him, and listen to His gentle urging of what He calls and desires for us, what His blessings are in our lives.

Nothing has been changed; This comment is as how it appeared on November 11, 2009.

6 years ago my hair started to fall out because of a medication I was taking for Crohn’s disease (it has been now diagnosed as Behcet’s disease that I have.)….. Anyways So I went to the Day Spa and had my hair cut to above the shoulder below the ears. My hair has almost alays been at least to the mid back for a long time. After I had it cut I cried and cried for days. This happend everytime I cut my hair short. I went to another Day Spa and got a perm still my heart was heavy. My bald spots were covered but I couldn’t understand why I felt so ashamed at what I had done. I started serching the bible and found my answers.

God started to press on my hearat that not only am I never to cut my hair again but also to wear a covering. He was also asking me to dress modestly. He was asking me to put aside my pants, shorts and wear long dresses, skirts and to show little to no skin as possible. I had a hard time with this. I once swore that I would never again wear a dress or skirt! As I became faithful and obiedient to God’s calling I became more and meore humble. My headcovering became a witness tool. My clothes became less and less revealing, my jeans went away ( I do own one pair that I wear on the fishing boat as I am very very ungraceful and unsteady and I have been known to land in some very odd unmodest positions in my dresses and skirts. It is ok to laugh I was!) and now I wear longer dresses (at least to the ankle) Long skirts and Blouses and shirts that arent see through and a second layer on top most of the time. My husband didn’t like the traditional headcoverings I liked, so my covering now is my below the waist lenghth hair, I do wear a headband scarf or bun cover when I wear my hair up sometimes. It has been a struggle but it was rewarding once I submitted to God’s will. It hasn’t been without challenges and persicution.

If you feel God tugging on your heart, or if you feel a weight on your shoulders over something I urge to reserch as to why. Look to the Bible for answers and pray about what you think God is asking of you I did and I am Glad I did. It is rewarding to obidient to God the Father.

My love for reading…..

I love to read…

If you don’t know me by now…I have a confession…I love books. I love to read.

I adore books and not the Kindle type, but the books, you can still hold in your hands and stuff in a bag and write notes on the side and highlight and have hubby wonder why the luggage bag feels like it was packed with bricks, and you don’t have the heart to tell him, that half it’s weight is due to books to be read on the plane, at the hotel, on the way home…….

Yes…I love books that much.

Every so often (which is often), I check a book out of the library or maybe from a friend/or family referral, buy a book, or just come across a title somewhere that sounds good and take a chance and order the book to read, to love and to add on an already strained library.

It’s worth it.

A book doesn’t need to be recharged.

The power can go out; The candle can be lit and the book can be read.

If there are bugs, it can be use to whack the bug, clean the cover, and continue reading, but no matter what, it serves so many purposes.

There is something about holding a book in your hand and just opening the pages and feeling that instant connection or desire to just throw the book away.

It’s timeless…and it’s always been around.

I pray and hope I can encourage my kids to love books as much as I do and the excitement they get when we go to the library or a book arrives in the mail is worth it.

I told hubby, the hard part is that, as frugal as we try to be, books is something I can’t give up.

I seriously search and research and wait with baited breath to try and get the cheapest, most inexpensive books I possible can order, so I can still have them to read over and over and over and to keep treasuring.

There’s always a stack of books by my bed.

That’s my signature.

So…………….there you go….I love books…a lot.

Bible 101-Studying Your Bible

From the archives of Sunflower Faith-Originally posted on February 22, 2008

This was a 7 part series on “Bible 101″ that I had originally written when my blog was hosted on blogspot.com. In the process of moving it over here, with prayers that this could be a blessing and encouragement to those who feel daunted about reading their bible and in light of reading “Becoming More than a Bible Study Girl”, I wanted to re-introduce these posts to you, Gentle Readers.

Photobucket

When you do a “google” search, it’s easy to come up with some really great, and useful tips on how to study the bible. For instance, at Biblestudy.org, there is a great tip here, on how to use different colors (always use either color pencils or DRY highlighters to mark your bible to prevent bleeding through) to mark and highlight passages in your bible.

We can go on and on, on what to use to study and read the bible, but I’m going to try to keep it short and simple.

First off.

  • The Bible- There is no way around it. If you are going to study the bible, what better source, than the direct source. No books about the bible is going to be just as effective as going to the bible itself. Keep in mind, the biggest reason is, books about the bible are written by men, who can be imperfect, so always consult the bible first and foremost and use anything and everything else as…well…a guide, not the absolute truth.
As to versions….Use what version is comfortable to you.

  • Pens and Markers -This is a interesting topic. Some people don’t like marking in the bible; Some do. This is really up to you with what YOU feel more comfortable doing. For those who do want to mark in your bible with a pen,Soulde Saenz has a great blog article called,”What to Use for Writing in Your Bible,“. I highly recommend you reading this article as he talks about pens that will be effective in writing in your bible, no matter how thick or thin the paper is and what pen won’t bleed through to the other side of your bible. As for markers…I always go with either dry highlighters that you can find with ease at your local Christian bookstore or even order online from the christian online bookstores.Even Amazon carries them! They are highly recommend for their ease, they don’t bleed through, they don’t smear and they are bible-friendly. Another great way to mark your bible are colored pencils….Make sure no matter what you use…You keep it in a place WITH your bible.

Need a guide to highlighting/marking your bible? There are several great resources that are a great help; Some which I recommend are the following:

To make it even easier, based on “How to Mark Your Bible” by Keeping the Home, what I did was create a printable “key” to paste (I use rubber cement since it comes off if needed) in my bible.

  • Prayer- Always always start with prayer! It does help because it gives you the opportunity to talk to God and to ask Him to help you understand what you are about to read and if there is anything, HE, feels, you need to glean from your studies.
  • Notebook- This can be anything…your computer, your blog, your dayplanner, a simple notebook…There is no end to how you keep your notes.

If you do use a ringed dayplanner, here’s one that can be used for either a 5.5 x 8.5 planner, either 3 ring, 6 ring or 7 ring.

Word Fill Wednesday-Heal

When you ask a medical student why they want to become a doctor, what do they say?

prescription

Is it because they want to make money (okay, maybe for some), or because they want to heal the sick?

More than likely, it’s because they want to heal the sick.

When we become Christians, it’s because, as sinners, we were once “lost” and now through Jesus Christ, we are now saved, but there gets to a point that we have to realize that it’s not about us.

Never was.

It’s all about Him.

And He is about all of us.

When we become Christians, there comes a point, when we need to challenge ourselves and like a great quote I saw on a blog said,“We can’t choose whom we love if we call ourselves Christians”.

He came not to save one person in specifics, or favoritism, but because of a lost and broken world that is always in need of healing and through us, He seeks to use us to share the message that there is hope and salvation.

During our bible study, we were talking about Matthew 9:11-13. You know the story, but just in case, here’s a quick recap:

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Now imagine how the scene must have been.

His disciples have been following Jesus Christ all day and are probrably pretty tired but feeling good about the work they had done.

They see Matthew and think, oh no, give this man WIDE BERTH.

Back in the day, tax collectors were thought of much lower than sinners and wow, that must be pretty low.

It could be easy to fill in the blank, the type of people today that we wouldn’t want to be around.

Not with Jesus.

See.

He came for them.

Really.

12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. -Matthew 9:12 (NKJV)

Remember the song from “Amazing Grace”, I once was lost but now I’m found.

There are a lot of lost people out there and many of them are usually not found by themselves; It takes a brave soul who is willing to go out of their comfort zone, who are willing to say, I can forgo comfort for one day, a few weeks, a month or even years, to see those who don’t have what I have, learn what I have and be taught what I have, so they too can have what I have.

A doctor and a nurse are among many who willingly go to the forefront of danger.

The rest of us run away, but like our brave soldiers who put themselves in the line of fire, so do our medical personnal.

It’s not an easy job.

They are the ones who take care of the sickest of the sick, if a new virus or sickness comes up, they are the ones who will meet it head on, but they do this, knowing that they will, because, they desire to heal those who have succumbed to illness to have a better life.

As Christians, that is one of the things that we are burden with.

It’s okay to have fellowship with those who are like-minded beliefs, who live in the same demographics, but there are those who are not bless as we are, who need God the most.

Sometimes, it takes, getting out of our comfort zone and as ambassadors for Christ, make sure that we don’t just associate with someone just because it’s in our comfort zone.

This doesn’t mean, get in your car and drive to the baddest neighborhood (or woods if your out in the country), but there are those who are homeless, who are addicted, who have given up hope, who are sick in a place that takes more than a physcian to heal them, they are sick in their hearts and soul and NEED to know that GOD loves them and wants to heal them.

God’s word isn’t just for those who knows Him, but also for those who don’t know Him.

He came here seeking to save all of us and give us a chance at true freedom.

13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:11-13, New King James Version)

I’m part of the Pocket Testament League and when I can (hey I forget the very dayplanner that is meant to keep me on track), I try to grab a couple of the gospels before heading out.

It’s really neat.

It’s basically JUST the book of John; Easiest book to read and has the plan of salvation in the back in case it touches someone’s heart enough to call upon Christ and when I’m out and about, if I see someone whose homeless or maybe on the side roads with a sign, I hand it out to them.

Yes, there’s a chance they may throw the book. but it’s not about that.

It’s not about driving off thinking that “Oh they are just going to toss it”.

It’s about praying over it and giving it to God and putting it in His hands and praying that for every ten I may pass out, one will be saved.

It’s not about the numbers, it’s about seeking and sharing.

Think that Jesus saved every single person He spoke to?

If we read our bible and look around us, we see that we still have a lot of work to do.

I’m sure there were plenty that were saved, there were plenty who actually stopped and listen, but there were also plenty who just went on their way, dismissing Him.

We are blessed by God, with Free Will, to make our choices, but with that blessing comes the responsiblity and the accountability.

As I tell my kids, “….every choice has a result; there is no such thing as no results”.

I’m sure Jesus disciples were aghast that Jesus was not only going to have dinner, but look what Matthew did!

He threw a party and invited everyone he knew and how much you want to bet that the people he invited, were people that some (notice I said some) wouldn’t normally associated with and wouldn’t associated with.

We want to surround ourselves constantly with people of good standing and fellowship, but as Christ tells us, 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:11-13, New King James Version)

For those of us who work, I bet there are people around you who don’t know, care or want to know Christ. It wasn’t any better in His time either and look at what people COULD do then.

But that didn’t stop Him or his followers.

Getting His word out was more important then what people thought of them.

Who cares about today when we’re talking about eternity.

Could you imagine the uproar if a doctor refuse to treat someone on the basis of not wanting to associate with them?

But but..they are a human being and they are sick and they deserve to be treated…..

Subsitute treated with saved.

The drug addict.

The liar.

The gossiper.

The prostitute.

The thief.

Look who Jesus surrounded himself with.

The murderer.

Oh. What about Saul? You mean, that murderious, traitor who sold Christians and put them to death, and then became…oh…..Paul.

Yes.

Paul.

God uses the unlikely.

And sometimes, by ministering to them….we sometimes realize, they end up ministering to us.

Maybe we still are judgemental.

Maybe we still don’t really have the empathy like we thought we did and discover it while serving lunch at a kitchen for the homeless.

At one time, we were all lost and then we were found.

Maybe it was someone by someone in your life, who experience the power and ever-changing grace of God in their life and in turn as service and worship to Him, they reach out to others because they know what it is like to be in pain, to be alone, to be…..rejected.

Next time you go to the doctor’s office, or at the ER; Look around.

It’s not just the healthy whose being served, but the sick as well.

Then go outside and see we live in a world filled with both the healthy and the sick.

You have the prescription in your hand.

Whom do we truly need to serve first?

Who do you hand the prescription to salvation to?

The man or woman who knows Christ and slowly working on their relationship with Jesus Christ or the man or woman beside them who doesn’t know Jesus Christ and who is sick with sin, with pain or rejection?

Each day that we are out, we are already ambassadors for our Heavenly Father; Be it the supermarket, the doctor’s office, our children’s schools, or just next door, we have the opportunity to share His word, by just merely being us, representing Him and speaking His words, and it doesn’t have to always be, by quoting scripture, but just a simple gesture of kindness, a simple reaching out to those who just aren’t having a good day and in it all, letting them know…that it’s not us who shares this care and love for them, but our Heavenly Father.

He has sent us out into the world, not to heal those who are healed, but to help bring comfort and healing to those who are sick and in need of a stronger and more reliable cure.
