Growing Long Hair Challenge

I received the following comment recently and it was a very powerful testimony that, with permission of the commentor, I would like to share with you, Gentle Readers.

It was a powerful testimony, for it reflects, just the humbling encouragement of our Heavenly Father and it goes beyond just growing one’s hair long, but  how, when we take that challenge to follow our Heavenly Father, trust Him, and listen to His gentle urging of what He calls and desires for us, what His blessings are in our lives.

Nothing has been changed; This comment is as how it appeared on November 11, 2009.

6 years ago my hair started to fall out because of a medication I was taking for Crohn’s disease (it has been now diagnosed as Behcet’s disease that I have.)….. Anyways So I went to the Day Spa and had my hair cut to above the shoulder below the ears. My hair has almost alays been at least to the mid back for a long time. After I had it cut I cried and cried for days. This happend everytime I cut my hair short. I went to another Day Spa and got a perm still my heart was heavy. My bald spots were covered but I couldn’t understand why I felt so ashamed at what I had done. I started serching the bible and found my answers.

God started to press on my hearat that not only am I never to cut my hair again but also to wear a covering. He was also asking me to dress modestly. He was asking me to put aside my pants, shorts and wear long dresses, skirts and to show little to no skin as possible. I had a hard time with this. I once swore that I would never again wear a dress or skirt! As I became faithful and obiedient to God’s calling I became more and meore humble. My headcovering became a witness tool. My clothes became less and less revealing, my jeans went away ( I do own one pair that I wear on the fishing boat as I am very very ungraceful and unsteady and I have been known to land in some very odd unmodest positions in my dresses and skirts. It is ok to laugh I was!) and now I wear longer dresses (at least to the ankle) Long skirts and Blouses and shirts that arent see through and a second layer on top most of the time. My husband didn’t like the traditional headcoverings I liked, so my covering now is my below the waist lenghth hair, I do wear a headband scarf or bun cover when I wear my hair up sometimes. It has been a struggle but it was rewarding once I submitted to God’s will. It hasn’t been without challenges and persicution.

If you feel God tugging on your heart, or if you feel a weight on your shoulders over something I urge to reserch as to why. Look to the Bible for answers and pray about what you think God is asking of you I did and I am Glad I did. It is rewarding to obidient to God the Father.

Thanks. Very interesting. I just started to grow my hair out again. My whole life I wanted long hair but my mom chopped it off in 4th grade and it grew slower than anyone could imagine. When I graduated it was just below my shoulders. Eventually after I got pregnant it finally grew all the way to my waist and I loved it, but in 2004/05 I began to cut it until it was very short and I said I would never have long hair again. However, not only has my style changed since then so has my heart. I have a strong conviction towards modesty like I never have before. I told my girls we would no longer buy pants although we take hand me downs for cold days around the house. My hair is pretty long and I look forward to seeing it grow in all its glory :)   (Quote)

God bless you for your comment!
I had cut my hair super short and since then, as my walk with our Father grew stronger, so was my conviction about growing my hair long and dressing more modest…It’s funny how as our growth and faith in our Father goes, it becomes more natural and desiring to follow His call, including how we dress.

What’s best is that it’s not something that is “forced” but is part of a natural want to please our Heavenly Father.  (Quote)
