Narrow Minded defined as Conservative?

This was something that I came across and as I read it, it was hard not to go…okay…isn’t this taking things a bit too far??

In World Net Daily, the following article on worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=98022 shared that,

When you hear the word “narrow-minded,” does “extremely conservative” pop into your head?

It might if you use Dictionary.com as a reference tool.

The online source to learn the meanings of words equates the two, based on information in the Random House Dictionary.

The listing provides three definitions for “narrow-minded”:

  • having or showing a prejudiced mind, as persons or opinions; biased.
  • not receptive to new ideas; having a closed mind.
  • extremely conservative and morally self-righteous.

It also features a list of synonyms, specifically “bigoted, partial, intolerant, illiberal.”

In this current environment, it’s understandable, the views that are being swung back and forth and this is not something that is normally talked about here on this blog, but after reading the article, it’s hard not to say, when is enough, enough?

This couldn’t be possible that a word that in other dictionaries is defined as

will include what is seen in this snapshot from Dictionary.com

Yet Dictionary.com doesn’t have a problem doing this?

So what about the other side of the picture? When definitions like this start being used, it becomes more political and propoganda and less fact.

Maybe it may not seem like that to a lot of others, but when dictionaries start getting involved…isn’t enough enough?

Even Merriam-Webster showed some dignity:

narrow minded

One entry found.

So I’m old fashion..but I will use Merriam-Webster over Dictionary.com and have some comfort that this isn’t about politics but about getting a straight definition…whatever that means anymore in this world.

Wow that is really crazy! Well in actuality God is narrow minded because he says there is only ONE way to Heaven and it must be HIS way, etc.
