Why grow my hair long and not keep it short or even medium length?
I think a lot has to do with feeling a personal conviction and wanted to pass on to my children, what being feminine is about.
Besides just enjoying movies such as “Sense and Sensiblity” and reading about the etiquette of the time, it really just brought home to me, with making the decision of letting our daughter’s hair not only grow long, but teach her the importance of modesty and what it is to be a woman.
I think had I done so in the beginning, it would have been more “legalistic” and “false” rather than true and more likely to fail.
Now, it’s more because of an inner desire and pull that is natural and not forced.
Do I think that having long hair makes one more special or saved?
No, I don’t.
To be saved, one has to admit one is a sinner; Believe Jesus Christ lived and died for your sins and Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Simple as that.
No long lines.
No lengthy applications.
Accept. Believe. Confess.
But now faith in Christ has come. So we are no longer under the control of the law. You are all children of God by believing in Christ Jesus. All of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ as if he were your clothes. There is no Jew or Greek. There is no slave or free person. There is no male or female. Because you belong to Christ Jesus, you are all one.-Galatians 3:25-28
I think when it’s done as a “requirement” it becomes “legalistic” and “forced”,basing salvation on physical appearance versus the fact that salvation is a free gift to anyone, irregardless of how they look, how much money they have, how much they know the bible or don’t, because dangerously “pharisee”.
From GotQuestions: Rather than establish legalistic standards of hair length, we must remember that the real issue is our heart condition, our individual response to the authority of God, His ordained order, and our choice to walk in submission to that authority.
There is no one standing at the gate whose going to say that the man who is dressed like a scary looking biker, but whose heart is filled with the Holy Spirit and who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior won’t get in, but the guy dressed in a suit will.
Just because a person has long or short hair, doesn’t mean they are saved, no more than the old adage, going to a garage makes one a mechanic.
Does one HAVE to grow one’s hair out long to be a Christian?
No.
“How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You pretenders! You clean the outside of the cup and dish. But on the inside you are full of greed. You only want to satisfy yourselves.-Matthew 23:25
God doesn’t pass or fail us if we aren’t wearing the right brand, or right clothes. If He started to exclude on “fashion basics”, very few would probrably make it because…oh wait, we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
With that said, I do FEEL, as a Christian how we dress and what we wear DOES matter, because if we wear something to be alluring to someone other than our mate or to be suggestive, how is that not being immodest or lust encouraging?
So it’s about being smart and being modest.
It can be as simple as seriously…wearing a bustier with tight jeans, really, just isn’t modest, but wearing something that isn’t extreme form fitting, but covers everything that needs to be cover (including checking that the chest line isn’t going mid-chest)-that’s modest.
If having to chose between the spaghetti strap t-shirt, or a loose fitting t-shirt that doesn’t bare all…well..the loose fitting t-shirt that doesn’t bare all, is a good fit, but this is about hair…not clothes.
I know, I know, tight rope, seems if it’s not one thing or another…but the path to our Heavenly Father is very narrow.
The word of God is living and active. It is sharper than any sword that has two edges. It cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit. It can separate joints from bones. It judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.-Hebrews 4:12
Praise God, Our payment has already been paid;In the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; One payment, however, what we do, act, wear and say, it can make or break bad testimony.
If we do anything, it should be genuine from the heart, not because of any one else, but because WE want to show God, from our own heart, our love and respect for Him.
Lost you yet?
Basically….it’s hard to say, “Yes, I’m a Christian” and wear a halter top that shows everything….So why again the long hair?
Just personal conviction; A strong desire to fully be the woman that I pray I can be for Our Heavenly Father, both in person, in home and in worship to and for Him, in my heart and in my soul.

If I was doing this because someone else told me I had to or just for myself, I would sooner just cut off all my hair than let it become an “idol” or “legality” that can cause me or anyone else around me to stumble in their walk with Our Heavenly Father.
The reason I’m doing this, is because I feel convicted by our Heavenly Father, to dress myself and wear my hair, in a way, that makes me feel more feminine, not as the fashion gurus of Paris has decided for me, but as our Heavenly Father has laid in MY heart to be.
Galatians 5:6
Circumcision and uncircumcision aren’t worth anything to those who believe in Christ Jesus. The only thing that really counts is faith that shows itself through love.
Though I grow my hair long, I stillknow God is going to judge me more by what He already knows in my heart versus how flashy (or non-flashy) I dress.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider how handsome or tall he is. I have not chosen him. I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at what is in the heart.”-1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
For me…growing long hair is a statement that it’s okay to be feminine as God intended us to be. We shouldn’t try to hide it or fight it or redefine it.
Waking up in the morning….with my hair loose…it’s actually a comforting feeling these days and I feel closer to the women of old. The pioneer women, the ladies of the Victorian era and more importantly, the women of the biblical era, whose hair was long and a “crown of glory”.
It’s a visual reminder in today’s world of mixed messages and mixed gender roles, that sometimes, being the woman that God intend us to be and not what society has defined us to be or say we should be, is okay too.

I have had my hair long off and on over the years. I like my hair long but have occasionally become frustrated with it because I over processed it and left it dry and damaged or headaches.
I have been growing my hair out for some time now and have posted a few pics on my site. I will be putting some more up today.
Ticia´s last blog post..Wanna see my buns???

Definitely would love to see some more pics of your hair! It’s a very difficult process (growing one’s hair out) but rewarding in the end too and mentally, it helps just having that reaffirmation that it can be done and a blessing in the end as well.
