Mundane yet Everyday

So I was sitting in my doctor’s office, passing time with my bible in my lap reading and reflecting on today’s bible study lesson from “Mocha on the Mount“.

Mocha on the Mount (Coffee Cup Bible Series)

I, along with another mom, run an online bible study group for busy women called, “Fill Your Cup,Bible Study for Busy Women” and the book we are studying this month is ,”Mocha on the Mount“, and I didn’t really stop and think of the irony of the passage I was reading, till I sat down this evening to post my reflections on today’s reading and it hit me, wow…as Christians, in America, we are so blessed, yet how often do we really take advantage of that blessing to share God’s word with others without fear, or to really live our lives as we say we do that reflect and bear testimony to Him?

The passage we had read for today was, “The Peacemakers and the Persecuted-Matthew 5:9-12″ and I have to be honest.

How many times have we woken up on a Sunday and thought, I’ll just skip today’s service, I just really can’t make it”, while halfway across the world, people are meeting in secret, because to gather in worship and service meant certain death, but they still make it, to lift their hands up in praise and worship of our Heavenly Father.

We have opportunties to share God’s word but we dont’ out of fear what people would say or think of us and yet, half way across the world, people find ways to get access to bibles and even faced with torture or death, STILL, speak God’s word and share His word to others, even in prison.

Our bibles lay cover with dust because we pick a secular book or magazine or watch t.v. because we “don’t have time” for His word, YET, halfway across the world, people share pages of the bible like it’s gold, because the bible is forbidden to be read by them or to them.

As I really reflect on that thought, it wasn’t hard for me to go, wow…and to think sometimes we feel self conscious if we read our bible in public or to share His word to someone and yet….we don’t have a reason really, not to, other than ourselves.

Lol..hopefully that is a good thing dear Sister…

What’s funny is I stopped myself and ask myself the same thing.

I went..wow…I’m able to read the bible in the open, there are plenty of times I could have share God’s word to someone who might, for all I know, be yearning or needing to hear His word and not sure from whom, or just simply, rather than pick up that magazine at the doctor’s office or where-ever, bring my bible and use that time to spend time with Him, but how often, we get in such a rush, we remember everything but Him.

It’s humbling and well…embarrassing to think, we pray for those who are without opportunity to have a bible due to fear of persecution but in a land where we can share His word without fear, we don’t because of….well…fear.

What a powerful truth you have shared with us, Twinkle Mom. Knowing that we have the freedom should never make us complacent in it when others around the world are so desperate that they risk their lives to obey the Most High God. Thank you so much for sharing your heart. Lots to ponder here.
