Word Filled Wednesday

Written by: Twinkle Mom

in Word-Filled Wednesday

I was set on posting a different picture for Word-Filled Wednesday, but when I was browsing, my heart became convicted on posting this verse instead.

Deuteronomy 11:19; Image Copyright:Heartlight Gallery
Deuteronomy 11:19; Image Copyright: Heartlight Gallery

A lot had to do with the fact that I was homeschooling, but a lot had to do with the fact of how convicted I’ve become about homeschooling.

As Christians and as parents, we live in a topsy turvy world where even the cartoons are questionable and the promoting of ideas and lifestyles that are contrary to a life that our Heavenly Father calls out for us to lead.

God’s word is for everyday, every situation, every moment, 24/7 of our lives and we don’t just occassionaly water the plants and pray that they grow?

We nurture them, we check on them each day, we give them nourishment each day, knowing that the basics and foundation of a strong, God-filled life starts in what is laid down and not what is built afterward as an afterthought.

Everyday belongs to our Heavenly Father and our children belongs to our Heavenly Father and we are rewarded with a heavy but rewarded stewardship of these precious cargos.

As I spend my days teaching the children and preparing to start teaching them God’s word as part of their curriculum, it hit me. Other than us and church, our children really won’t be getting this anywhere else.

In the retail stores, as I see clotheswear and accessories marketing for a popular singer and geared toward toddlers who barely know who this singer is, I think of whose attention do we want our children to have? That of a stranger who sings and dresses in a way that ages rather than promote innocenence, or do we wish for the attention of our children to look not at that, but at our Heavenly Father instead.

Everyday is a teaching opportunity; We are the first teachers and the most permanent teachers, along with our Heavenly Father, when it comes to guiding them in our lives.

Amen sister!

This is wonderful! And how important it truly is that we take EVERY opportunity teach them the word of God. We can’t homeschool b/c God said “no” when we asked. So my boys go to public school, but we redeem every time we have (by teaching them since they were two how to have praise and quiet time with God first thing, having breakfast devotionals every morning before school, talking to them about how God worked in their lives while at school, etc.).

We know what they have to go through in school and we are so thankful that God has used them to be His light in that dark world.

Thank you for sharing your passion and God-given wisdom w/us today!

Bless you dear sister,
Sunny

It is so true that our children are like sponges and they soak up what they see, what they see people do. And it is hard to be in the world but not of it, but we are pilgrims in a foreign land.
As a teacher I tried to ask parents how often did their children see them read a book.
Not a magazine, not a newspaper but a book for pleasure or instruction.
They cared desperately that their children would learn to read but they forgot they were
the main example that the child will follow. Boys need to see Father’s read or how do they know
it is a manly thing to do.
You have a great privilege to have them at home and a great Godly responsibility.
May He equip you, enable you each day as you seek Him to lead you in your task for Him.
I love to quilt. I am amazed at how seldom do I think to ask God to lead me in this work,
yet my very reason for beginning to move into this area was to meet people who were
non Christians. It iis very hard to witness when you mix in a Christian enclave.
And yet I so often forget to dedicate and ask for enabling for these basic segments of
my days.
Hugs in Him.

Oh how true this is! You are a very wise mother. God is truly going to use all the time you invest in your precious children.

Great picture with the verse. Hope you have a super blessed WFW! So glad I got my post through last week.

Blessings Twinkle?

Amen, my friend! It is so important to teach our children the Word of God. And it is even more important to teach them to read it themselves. My son and I are reading through the New Testament together for Bible. Then he journals what he is reading. It has led to some very interesting discussions. What I think is really neat is when he says, “I love this story!” That is joy to a mama’s heart!
