“The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This week, Heather is hosting “In ‘Other’ Words” at her site, “Mumblings of a Mommy Munk“. Come join her and other bloggers for “IOTWT“
In a group I was in, we were asked as part of a “QOTD”, “What is your dream house?”.
As I contemplated on the question, flashes of mansions, coast side homes and just a hammock went through my mind, but then it stopped and it focused not on a dream house of brick and stone, but of who I had around me, for me this is my dream home.
They are what makes home.
For most of my life, like many of us, or maybe some of us, life was a series of transitions.
From our parents home to a dorm room, or maybe our first apartment, or as a newly married spouse and all those were temporary dwellings, that resulted maybe in many different changes in homes, locations and scenery.
No matter where I went…for me, the real roots of a home was in the people who were around me.
I had learned over in time, that home wasn’t just the roof that was above me and protected me from the weather, but home was the people who were in my lives. My family, the pets, the neighbors and the friends who defined the home I knew.
For me….that is my dream home. Whereever I am, it is home. Home is all the more now, with our Heavenly Father being my foundation in my life; A un-destructible foundation and a solid firm ground to which my feet is forever firmly planted in.
No matter what happens, with my bible in my bag, my family at my side, and most of all my friends…I don’t honestly need much.
Psalm 61:1-4 (NIV)
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you,I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge,a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
As I grew in really knowing our Heavenly Father and making that decision to ask Him to forgive me of my sins and to come be in me and live through me, I begin to realize how powerful and forever He is. I could be stranded in the middle of a dark highway (and no doubt hyperventilating and in complete fear), and God is still there. He is in control even though I would no doubt, not be in control.
In the middle of the night, all quiet around me, and just me and my thoughts, God is still there; He is the eternal Father and Friend who is there unconditional for us, in good times and in bad. He cries with us, He laughs with us, but He never leaves us.
He blesses us with people in our lives who help us grow, who hurt us, who bring us joy and who bring us sorrow. He is the perfect Friend and Father who uses these people to refined us, to encourage us and to comfort us.
These are what makes a home a home.
It’s true no man is an island.
We are, who we are, both bad and good, because of the people that God blesses us with in our lives.
I am so grateful to our Heavenly Father for that absolute expression of love and care He shows for us. I have dear friends in real life, who have been my strongest allies, and I have had friends who have been my strongest foes, and I thank God for each and every one of them.
Some I still speak to and some of gone their separate ways, and God, in a way that only God can do, has use each one of them to connect, touch and refined me in His image.
When I walk around my home, I don’t see what’s on the walls, the peanut butter on the couch, or the Van Gogh impression my toddler has made that day on a recently, repainted for the hundredth and going on million, time, but I see the people who pass by these walls each time they come to visit, and have left an impression, both good and bad on my heart and on my walk with God and I thank God for each laughter, each tear, each heartache that my friends have brought to me.
That is a blessing and a praise to our Almighty God.

Thanks for the comment on my blog! And although I don't have a dachund, I do have a crazy greyhound mutt (who was laying just out of picture range when I took that shot of the living room)!
I really enjoyed your post, too!

Beautifully said. You know, so many people in my family place such emphasis on us "buying a home" and they just don't get that we already have a home. We rent and we don't care because we are happy as a family – together- the people of our family – with God surrounding us.
