Come Join Sunflower Faith, every Sunday for “Praise and Worship” as we come together to share praises and worship to our Heavenly Father!
I sang those words during a sermon about the importance of God’s word; Those words are in the bible that was given to me after I was baptized; Everywhere I look, breathe and feel, those words remind me why God’s word is so important to us.
For 2008, I took on and have continue to work on reading through God’s word and in addition to that, memorize at least 8 scripture verses to keep it buried in my heart for when God needed to pull them out where they are safely guarded to remind me deeply of His word and providence.
There is a story about a woman who had read the bible so thoroughly, she could repeat it by memory but when she was in her late eighties, Alzheimer’s took hold of her and those precious words of God, slowly slipped away as well as her memories of everyone around her.
Soon all she could remember was a slip of verse, yet even though she didn’t know anyone around her, she would repeat that verse….
Soon, little by little, she begin to forget one word after another of that verse, but even Alzheimer’s couldn’t be a victor over God’s Word, for as she was prepared to slip from this world to the next, she whispered from precious, faith filled words, “……..Him”.
Even Alzheimer’s couldn’t take God from her and she had buried Him SO deeply in her heart that even at that last moment, the last word she remember and spoke was of God, Almighty, Himself.
It may seem a great feat to memorize God’s word but the reality that if you know the ten commandments, if you know the story of Christ, you know God’s word, even if it is just the oft said scripture, John 3:16.
For this Sunday Praise and Worship, I would like to ask you to share on your blog, what is YOUR favorite scripture and if you like or would, what importance is that verse to you that it is your favorite and lead you to remember it and memorize it no matter what?
For me, it’s “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” Isaiah 7:9.
It is a reminder that if I am willing to compromise the word of God and basically our Heavenly Father for anything, than I am truly unworthy to be called His humble servant.
We live in a world of temptation and in a world where we are taught to compromise anything including our beliefs. How often after church, we are filled with the fever of an awesome sermon, only to come home and turn on a television show that could compromise everything that we stand for.
How often when we have the choice of reading God’s word or a sizzling romance novel, our eyes glaze over our bibles and pick up the novel instead?
It’s not to say, one is a bad person to that extent, hey, we’re human and we do slip, but when we spend more time slipping and less time trying to get our balance back, we may want to do a self-reality check.
When I found myself truly in the grips of Jesus Christ embrace and feeling Him knocking, one of the things that really floored me and convicted me as I allowed Him in me and living through me, was that part of being a Christian was that I had to be prepared to do what I needed to do to be firm in my belief of Him if I was going to call myself a “follower of Christ.”
This verse is a reminder to me, each time I feel a little shaky or unsure that we walk a tightrope and the drop that is below us, can sometimes be much further than we think it really is.
I praise God that He has been there, in me, through me and around me and I continually pray that I continue to be His humble servant though I know that I am unworthy for what He calls me and it is only through Jesus Christ that I am able to call myself a “follower of Christ”.
